RDD DIG CDi...SO FAR SO GOOD

Post by ramchandra_salunke »

I have just clocked over 100 Kms using RDD digital CDI, I have used it along with activa plug cap and NGK “R” type spark plug without timing and it has been a trouble free journey So far. The bike starts within 3 kicks (max). The engine is running cooler when compared with stock CDI (Engine running cooler does not mean the engine is at ambient temperature..…….it only means that the engine does not radiate heat and is in a condition where you can touch or slide your palm on its surface to sense the low intensity of the heat, but instead if you stick your palm hard on the engine surface. All you will end up is with blisters and hope that it is not your left palm)…..the ride gets more enjoyable when you rev the bike harder…yeah thats the unique feature…mileage definitely boosts up if it is of your concern ( you can expect an increase of 2 to 4 Kms depending on how you ride)….. I have not checked the emission readings (my current PUC expires on 27 may…..hey am not miser. I am just lazy). One practice i have been following is that I wait for few sec’s after switching on the ignition to allow the CDI CPU to boot properly…I don’t know if it is required or not. ………..but there’s no harm.

Another good feature noticeable (especially for city rides) is that it helps you remain at any low RPM without the engine fluttering and avoids playing around with throttle to keep the engine alive. Another good thing is that if you suddenly downshift, even with high RPM onboard….thers no gghhhaaaaaaaaangggggggg…..instead it will politely settle down in that gear with stress free revving.

Now does this RDD DIG CDI, has any disadvantage???????? ..Yes there may be .but I can think of one... you will have a constant pain in the ASS to make sure that the battery is not out of steam…..i was wondering that if the CDI also had the feature where it could show the Volts it is receiving before the bike is started. ………like a self diagnostic check. Nevertheless it is definitely worth buying if you love your ride and want it to live a longer life.



Once again Ron …..Great Work!!!!!!!!!!

No lead time required for CDI cpu. Instant power up.

CDI has to have a voltmeter :D now thats a nice one. you can always hook up a voltmeter to battery. The CDI will power up unless your battery is stone dead. So if you have not ignored the battery for years/left the bike non running for a few month then u dont need to worry.

Have fun, thats important.

The CDI should power up and run just fine even without a Bat. i.e. in case of emergency.
The juice to power the CDI can be created from the magneto it self.
But we dont discuss this option because sooner or latter you will have some cutlet come along and say oh my engine dies when I press the horn.

actually i run my 5speed almost 2yr without a battery..only the capacitor was giving the juice for cdi. my horn was working too.. yet no problems there..so thats not a disadvantage anymore.. may be disadvante for the horn since it may not sound clear
