Finally installed the kit but...............................

Post by tandel.pankaj »

Finally I installed the RXG kit on my RX-100. It was simple to connect the kit as per the instructions on the forum.
All the grounding work is done neat i.e. metal to metal contact grounding. After that I drove the bike with the same timing
and felt no difference then I advanced the timing by 4mm using the second method i.e. by drilling the holes. I felt that the
timing was better this time but the magic of rdd dreams cdi kit was missing yet. So I checked for the spark from Ignition coil
and was surprised to see that the spark was of same strength as of the original CDI. Please help me to rectify this problem.
I think this may be due to the source coil and pulsar coil. Since RX-100 has pulsar coil of 20 ohms. And I have seen that in RX-100
source coil comes in two different size (the bigger one shows 115 ohms and smaller size coil shows 220 ohms). The bigger one was on
my bike which was too low as per the installation instructions so I replaced my magneto with other RX-100 magneto which was with my mechanic.
It showed me the pulsar coil reading = 22 ohms and source coil = surprisingly 1500 ohms. But the sparks are weak after all this efforts.
And one more thing the bike is pulling well till 80 kph but after that pulling slowly till 100 kph and that even slows down till 110
(purely analog speedo reading). Can anyone help me with this and any one else who have installed the kit on their RX-100 can
also help me please.

Get new pulsar and source coils. 2 source oils? You mean the lighting coil?

No not the lighting coil I am talking about souce coil of different sizes on different stator plates on two differnt RX-100 and both have differnt diameter of magneto as well.

One of them might be rewound.

Just buy original pulsar and source coils from a showroom. Pulsar should be around 70-80ohms and Source coil should be around 300. If possible, take a DMM with you while buying. Do you have a 5K plug cap?

Have you timed the bike accurately or just drilled 2 holes?

I have used honda activa plug cap,and just drilled two holes for timing having problem with timing the bike. Can u plz send me the procedure to time the bike accurately plzzzzzzz on my email id (pankaj.tandel@relianceada.com) so that I can tell my mechanic to do so.
And should I use RXG source coil and pulsar coil on my RX-100.

Search around the forums. There is a trick called "folding paper method" to determine where to drill holes. Do a search on the forums.

Or you can ask mumbai members to help you out.

I know the folding paper method to set time at 22.5 degree but is this timing correct to work the cdi best because I have seen some bikes running well at 18 degrees and some at different timings . So how can I know the correct timing for my bike . Is it by trial and error method or anything else.

Yes. trial and error. Even my bike doesnt run fine at 4 degrees. Each bike has its own timing. General rule is 4 deg above stock should work fine for most bikes. If it doesnt, well it needs more time in timing it.

I told you that day on the phone itself, get the right pulsar and source coil, namely from a 135 and it will work fine.

a. The pulsar coil has nothing to do with spark strength it only tells the bike when to fire. An orignal RXG coil is the best bet. There are 10 fakes for every orignal I see. Which is sad. But if you have a 20 ohms pulsar and the spark is hapening on time / looks ok with a timing light then your ok.

b. Source coils come from 5K to 300K. I have tested over 100 coils and there are pros and cons to each winding scheme. We do custom winds for custom builds. But for a stock bike you should be ok with a source coil between 200 and 300 Ohms.

c. Air gap is critical. i.e. you cant take a source coil designed for one drum and expect it to run with another. The size has to be matched.

This is typical case of wasting time. Guy installs CDI does not follow instructions and advance the timing then goes looking for a fix and lands up chasing tail.

d. Do not connect the Black and white wire / kill wire to the CDI this robs spark energy and is not required on a digital CDI.

Another thing I have noticed personally, RX100 HT coil doesnt make a big/fat enough spark, Yamaha OEM HT Coil made by Power for the 135 is what I have on my bike, and it produces a 1 inch spark on idling and the bike still runs. So check your HT coil.

What Sir Chinoy said is not to connect the Black & white wire kill wire on the harness to the cdi kill connector.
It means I have to disconnect the Kill wire of CDI from the harness. Then what is the use of this wire.
And torqu3e Thanks for the info man I will try the HT coil of rx 135 and get back to u.

if you connect the CDI power wire to something that switches off when you turn off the key, you can ignore the kill wire.

Sir you explained the use of 2 option wires to check if you want to more advance or retard the timing.
But sir suppose if I am running on the sweet spot then what will be the effect if I try the option wires.
Because the problem here with me is that when I was running my bike on old CDI my bike was already smooth in operation
so the smoothness difference is not felt when I installed the digital kit on my RX-100.
So can u plz help me.
And also I am running my bike with 4 deg advance from stock which I feel is better timing then 20 deg and 22.5 deg which was tried earlier. Yesterday while riding my bike with 85 kg pillon at 70 kph
bike shuted off after restarting my bike, bikes power went off it was running like a shit, when showed to my mechanic he told
there was a slight seizer of piston.
So is my timing ok or should I retard it slightly.
