i have a 1987LT got the bike 6 years back, it was in a pretty bad shape, the DPO( dreaded previous owner)actually murdered the bike,it was even sporting bullet silencers-imagine that,(the conical ones that they bolt on to the enfield bullets)the original silencers were removed and these stupid contraptions were welded on to the bends(ruined those bends.)the bike was running on scooter coils, the rectifier-regulator unit was busted, the bike was running on localy fabricated ones.
i paid 18000 for the bike in that condition
wait for part 2 of the story

PART 2
i ride the bike home,Remember , i was have no idea what i was dealing with , in those times. So i called a friend of mine who used to have rds. and we decided to strip the bike.we strip it down completely.the engine was a mess, filled with oil the consistency of tar ' it looked as black as tar too. The top end was worse, it was running standerd size pistons -ART,huge ring end gap. the bores were almost oval. all the bearings were shot.
so all the bearings were changed, main bearings and gear box bearings the crank was rebuilt
i have to wait for 6 months to get a gear box bearing, a needle bearing.finally found it in chennai by a friend of mine.
and we put the engine back together after 6 months
the suspension was also in a bad condition.
there was no oil in the front forks, the fork seals were gone the fork inner tubes were rusted , so when the tubes move up and down the rusted area just ate the seals off.
i havea real hard time oprning up the engine cases, the DPO had a fall i think, and he broke the kicker shaft, what he did was ,instead of changing the shaft he went to a local welding shop and welded the lever to the shaft, i have to saw off the shaft to get the side cover off. 4 hours with a hack saw and several blades.
the clutch center nut were in bad shape , having attacked by a chisel and mallet several times in the past, had a hard time getting it off too.-looked like the mech haven't even got the proper tools.
all the seals were also changed.
the barrels were rebored to .5 over size and TKR japan pistons and yamaha rings were used for the rebuild the top end bearing was the black one (i think the rxg ones)
when the barels came back it gave me doubts about the life span of the pistons and rings , the clearences were so tight and the grooves on the walls of the barrels were soo deep that it looked like a sand paper job.(what the hell i did'nt know the difference between a good and bad job at that time.) so i installed them on my engine at that time.

electricals are pretty basic ,. they are till now,
i am using maruthi coils one for each cylinder, and kinetic RR unit.
rx100 switch gear,rx100 spark plugs and kb 100 battery
using paper filter
the carbs , i do not know a thing about them. my friend set them up for me
i was able to get a set of silencers, left one is LT and the right one is HT
the bike ran much better than the previous set up
the accleration was good until the bike hit 80kmh behaved like a rd should,or till about 5500rpmafter which the power just fell .It was able to touch 110 once and it took a while to reach there.
Even enfield bullets were able to over take my bike.

After a while there was sounds from the engine and gear box.
And the rectifier and regulator unit will blow up now and then leaving me with only one cylinder firing.
so even after the rebuild the bike was not any good
And it was at this point of time i found about RD dreams and the Guru Ron chinoy.
wait for part 3

PART 3
I was really really fed up with the bike during those times , even thought of selling it.The rd forum we have here actually rekindled my spirit.
One day i started to strip down the bike , got the engine down, and opened up the top end, there were several grooves on both the pistons , really deep grves, and slight marking on both the cylinders. the spark plugs were both black and covered in oil, the heads were also black with heavy deposits, all the ports were caked with carbon, the exhaust port have heavy deposits all around(Ron , when you saw the cylinders and barrels they were already cleaned up )
the crank was floating in oil, and a dirty brown sludge which contained little bits of ground up metal.(which was explained later by Ron)
when i drained the gear box oil thhere were these little bits of metal there too.i am still in the dark about that.
the crank was a mess, the lead weights have come loose and was touching the con rods and the conrod was grinding up the lead and pieces of lead got sucked into the barrels and got jammed between the cylinder walls causing the grooves on the pistons, lead being softer than iron there was not much marking on the cylinders. And that explained the engine noise i think.

part 4
By the way at this point of time i was corrosponding with Ron on a regular basis, he even send me a pair of forks and rear shocks , and they are in perfect condition. i do not know how he was able to procure it for me.they changed the handling of my bike into another level.
After discussing with him about the troubles that i am having i decided to bring my engine over to him , he recommeded a total rebuild for the top end and the crank,
the barrels are rebored to 0.75 over and the con rods are replaced by RZ ones, and the big end and small end also got the Ron Chinoy treatment
the engine now breaths better through bigger RZ reeds and manifolds
i have never seen such wonderful reboring job(done at vijaydeep)
The bike is nowhaving a lightened crank
the matriel was taken out from the insides
i havent started the bike yet , Ron is still fixing my carbs. And i am waiting for a rectifier- regulator from him
Were able to meet some real nice people while i was at Rons place.Danny, RDD Filter, and Arun.
Thanks Ron for seeing me and taking up my engine,
until i met you i thought i am a perfectionest.

hi there guys
i got the most powerful bike in trivandrum,
the bike after the rebuild by Ron is an entirely different machine.
feels more solid and powerful.
is lifting the front wheel even now; during the run in stage- my fingers slipped on the clutch by accident when starting from a traffic stop.
I am eagerly waiting for the run-in to be over.

Be very carefull cause your a light guy. And the bike can flip you.
After run in only take it to 8-9K from 3rd gear onwards.
Then as you get more familiar with the power you can move down to 2nd and then to 1st. If the front comes up to fast. Close throtel and press rear brake.

Yeah tons of other new bits not mentioned.
Like new shocks, new chambers, new baffels, New wire mesh air filter, New Engine Side cover.
New rubbers for Clutch bell. TIg welded Crank to prevent spread. Dot bearings for the crank. The Ex. Duration is a hoax. I wouldnt give out the actuall figure used LOL. (192) would give you a very narrow power band. The rest of the info though is acurate.
A huge ammount of work was done by Roy also.
