Introduction to Forum.

On 09/04/2014 I had my first heart attack or as the doctors call it a Anterior wall myocardial infraction.
With a Thrombus in mid Lad.
Luck was on my side. As at no time did I pass out. And there was no traffic. We first rushed to Santosh.
The junior doctor on duty there basically shat a brick. And after 15 Min. Asked me and my wife to leave.
He directed us to Fortis on Cuningham road.
At Fortis my life was saved by Dr. Prabhakar Koregol.
They have the ability to get into the heart with an coronary angiogram. And they where able to clear the clot. The doctor feels this was related to my smoking 4 packs a day.
So the smoking had to stop. And on date which is 23/4 I had not smoked.
I will write about my near death exp. My 2 nights in the ICU. And what I figured out while in a bed with a network of tubes hooked up.
A big heart felt thanks to the Nurses at Fortis. They are the true angles and if doctors are god. Then Nurses are real angles.
My respect for Nurses has shot thru the roof. What a profession. What a way to earn good karma.
So I have had to stop smoking.
Never in my life have I felt the urge to stop. My logic was my grand parents both smoked. And lived past 60. I told my self things like as long as I can get it up everyday. I dont have any circulation problems. I also told my self that the first sing that smoking was bad for me or really becoming a life and death issue I would stop smoking.
Well I got my warning / wake up call. And I have to stop. The reason I never wanted to stop before is because I really love and enjoy smoking.
So to make sure that I dont go back to smoking and so that I can still enjoy my smoke I have taken up the E- Cig. Or Vapping.
And I still crave to light up a real smoke. But it gets easier as each day passes.
I spent 2 days and 2 nights in the ICU. Saw people die. Saw the complications that smoking causes. Most of the people in the ICU where all middle aged.
One guy had a clot in his brain which has paralyzed him. The familly have to come up with a few lacks to operate on him. And there is no guarantee he would regain control of his limbs.
Another case the family had to come with 1.5 Lakhs per day for 7 days to pay for an injection. And again no surety it would even help.
My own treatment was delayed because they refused to admit me with my Insurance card. They insisted on payment up front. This is the only bit that pissed me off. You have a fully covered patient in front of you. Coding on a heart attack and your wasting time waiting for somebody to come up with cash or card at 3am. Insurance did clear the full payment by the time I checked out which was good.
So the truth of the matter is if you smoke. You are going to land up in the hospital. And its a roll of the dice what will hit you.
a. Fully body or partial body paraylisis.
b. Cancer of the mouth.
c. Cancer of the throat
d. Cancer of the Lungs.
e. Heart attack. Leading to damaged heart mussel.
Now if you where to just die. It would be simple. But you dont die. Right away. Its weeks and months of time in hospitals. And very very costly bills before you die.
So if this forum can help educate one more smoker about the dangers of smoking get them to stop I feel Ive achieved something in life. And Ive earned a bucket full off good Karma by preventing that person from having to face hospital time.
