Revelation 2

Post by reaper »

I got my bike back from Ron sometime in mid July. This is after 3 years of blood, sweat, tears, sleepless nights poring over articles on the net, lack of sleep and having a shitty bike to start with.

I got my hands on the bike in mid 2006 after deciding the karizma was too tame and the next hop up was an RD.I generally avoided 2 strokes because of the noise and smoke. After buying the bike and spending 45 odd k on it in delhi the end result was laughable. It was running on points, had a shagged crank, the cylinders hadn't been bored straight and the carbs were another nightmare altogether. That motor blew twice.Once the right piston had grenaded.Second time around, the left piston rings hooked into the exhaust port and fragged.

Looking for reasons apart from "you didn't run it in well" to the more popular "you ride like an ass",i decided to do some hunting around on the net.Result:RDD.I signed up sometime in 2007 and essentially made a complete laughing stock of myself.
I got friendly with Mohith and he helped convince Ron to take up the build.
I broke her down in feb 2008 and sent Ron my motor.

There was a shit load of work to be done...from undoing the "mods" to the cases to figuring out how in hell they managed to kill that motor with such dedication. It was pure idiocy and ron discovered what real Jugaad is.Anyway, fast forward to 3 months ago.

I came down to bangy to pick up my bike and take her back home. But thanks to Tejinders's insisting,i gave an interview for akamai technologies and managed to get through.I couldn't have been happier.
The bike has been a WIP since i got here. But through Teji and Shuvo,I found one of the most sincere and quite possibly the best mechs in Bangalore.

Coming from a bike that had light switch power(incredibly limited) and a deep resentment for all the delhi tooners and mechs,I got my HT/US hybrid motor ready to trot.I'll get to the specs in a bit. This bike has taken on a whole new personality.First it was wheezing to keep up with the karizmas and pulsarwaadi junta with the motor getting ready to throw a rod.

Now it's become just plain nasty.Low down in the rev range it's grunty and broody.Half way through it starts building up to what could possibly be troublesome. Then at around the 7k mark, the motor is takes on a much more sinister character.I've left behind the fear of not pushing that motor beyond 7k.

It's turned into something i've always wanted. My one way ticket to insanity has finally been punched. This engine can take on whatever the best of bangalore can offer. She's ready.I'm so happy and reassured of that new motor that I want to take her to the hill climb.Preparations have begun.

This is going to be a long list of thankyous to all the people who've helped me with this thing.

1)Rohinton Dara Chinoy.
2)Mohith Saradhy
3)Tejinder Pal Singh
4)Shuvo Mukhopadhyay
5)Danny
6)Pradeep Kodani
7)Azgar Khan
8)Ashwani Rana(Delhi)
9)Nandu Ustaad (Delhi)
10)Gurmukh Singh Salh
11)Raghu(for driving me round the bend)
12)Vivek Jayasheel
13)Nikhil Mahajan
14)Shyam Mohan
15)Rahul Sheode, without who the rashmobile would have never been born. Thanks Rash, this motor should impress you. :D

I need to also mention that my parents have been very supportive of all this madness. My sisters have helped me dig out parts and get them shipped.Without all of good people(barring Raghu) I wouldn't have been able to get this far.Now onto the really good stuff, what went into her and how she's running with a few adjustments.

1)RDD liner
2)RDD port job(US/HT hybrid. If this one doesn't have a name i'd like to call it the "Pandey Port".)
3)RDD cdi
4)Wiseco pistons
5)RDD rebuilt crank with HotRods.
6)RDD blueprinted gearbox
7)RDD multi frequency Reeds in RZ cages
8)RDD modded heads
9)RDD Chinoy Filter Pod filters.
10)TZR 250 Carbs(TM28SS) (woo hoo!!)
11)EBC cork plates

She was given to me with some pretty big jets and timing locked into full retard.Cleant up the blacked out plugs post runin and we bumped the timing to a little under 22 degrees using the same jets and needle clip.Bike has become sharper and more aggressive. She looks a like a rat rod which is what i always wanted.

I'd like to formally thank the old man and the RDD guys for helping out whenever they could. Thanks guys, you rock!

Cool man.
Its come out pretty good considering its a liner job.
Just dont go change a few jets and claim you got it to make power. Ive had that done to me in the past.

I have always believed in handing over bikes with retarded timing and rich jeting.
This way it limits the damage done by any lapses during the run in.

Now that your run in over. You can bump up the timing to 24-26 Deg. And go a leaner on the jets. Just dont do both at the same time.
As jetting is linked to timing. If you bump up the timing to optimum which should be around 25-26 Deg for your setup. You will find the same jets which where giving you dark plugs will turn the plugs lighter.

Just keep a close eye on the plugs dont let it go white. And never push it for more than 5-10 seconds on a new setting without checking the plugs.
Lastlly monitor CHT with a few drops of water. From time to time.

Umm... I don't know why my name is in there. But now that you put it there you owe me a ride!!!

I'll never forget the look on everybody's face the day you sent those TM flatties "safely packaged" in a box full of tiny thermocol bits. That was till we realized you had "polished" the carbs with a *bleep* file as well. :-#

Long way since then brother. But congrats on finally getting there.

Sho' thing pradeep, she's all yours.I'll be heading over to ron's tomorrow morning for some fuelling guidance.Last 2 days been running 20 ml motul 510 and 20 ml mak to a liter of gas.Motor's quitened down some, but it still needs some RDD tuning for that sledgehammer punch.
