continuing frustration
continuing frustration
When I bought my digital kit from economy it was listed for RD400's and said it included directions. After a 2 or 3 month wait it arrived with no directions I was told I could get them from this site. I found out the kit was designed for RD350's but would work on my 76 RD400. Since it was already late in the season and I was busy I didn't get around to installing it till today. First surprise was that the bronze plate was drilled incorrectley, no problem I drilled new holes and filed slots so I could get the Ignition pickup at 6 oclock as suggested . I followed the directions and went to start it to time it, and another surprise the keys were wrong for the ignition switch I couldn't turn it. I thought this sounded like a good system, but I'm beggining to have doubts. If your quality is as good on the electronics as it's been so far am I going to have a bike I can trust? Also I haven't been able to find any information on what the curve 2 hookup on the control unit is for or how to use the wasted spark hookup. This whole process has been very frusrating and I wonder what I've gotten myself into this is not what I expected from a $600.00 setup
Re: continuing frustration
Bob many companies ask you to refer to their site for the latest instructions.
Did you chk the right forum and follow the right instructions.
Did you just pick up the phone and ask John about this. The complete concept of paying extra to buy from a local source is defeated if you dont pick up the phone and have a chat with the seller. Over even the smallest doubts.
If you would have you would read that 6 Oclock is just a generic direction. Since there are 3 holes there are 3 possible ways to mount the plate. We just want you to mount it with the pulsar in the 6 O clock direction oh should I say pulsar pointing in a southward direction. This has been repeated over and over again. Please dont bother drilling new holes, just use the slot provided.
Our kit is designed for the US market first. It makes up over 95% of our sales.
You should not have bothered to drill new holes. The holes provided are for the RD400 and it would have worked if you had just tried it.
Or made this post when you got the kit. And if it hadn't worked you could have drilled new holes and complained. Or contacted us with a msg or posted a question on the support forum.
Anyway no harm done. Just use the slots provided.
As to your Ign key not fitting. There is always a first time for everything. This is the first time I have heard of something like this in 10 years. If you don't believe me chk the support forums going back all the years.
I would request you to return the ign s/w and keys to John who will replace them for you. Maybe he has a lock with the right keys.
FYI over 90% of our kits sold in the past 10 years have been to RD400 owners. And every effort has been made to ensure the kit works for them. And they are happy with the results.
I honestly feel you have jumped the gun on this one with your comments.
As to your option wire confusion. You may want to print out this sheet.

Also refer to the forum and threads I have sent you via PM.
And if there is anything I can do to improve the kit / make it easier to install for RD400 users please let me know.
In fact ask John for his little trick off using the stock RD400 switch and just changing out the internals.
