My build!
My build!
Ok this has been pending for over a month now. First some pics of my RD taken before the build. Dont have any good 'after' pics yet. Looks the same still though..
Bike was running .5 LT barrels butchered by some roadside mech, ports were messed with, to run like a HT. Some crappy shogun CDI and stick filter. The bike used to overheat like crazy and run like crap.. no power till 4 K RPM and a very narrow band.. and it made a heck of a racket in the 'band'
Work done:
RDD CDI + Chinoy Filters + RDD jets
RDD Street port (mild port according to Ron - less power)
RDD rebore to 1.0 mm over (the previous hone was so bad we needed to go 2 sizes over) with Wiseco pistons sourced from RDD
Stock carbs are badly pitted and have a lot of room for improvement
Crank is still the old setup. Waiting to save up and for Ron to get time for a full crank rebuild.
Clutch is not to my liking and a lot of work is pending in this regard
Now for the best part - how she runs. Unbelievably tractable - pulls smoothly from any gear. Blip the throttle and revs build up in a flash. Before i know it im hanging on for dear life! 2nd, 3rd... the power just doesnt let up. I can cruise all day long at 100 Kmph in 6th and not get her to rev beyond 5 K. Incredible! And when i blip the throttle, she takes off like shes in 3rd or 4th. I havent had the guts to go beyond 100 - 110 yet coz the brakes are so crappy.
We are running 250s and its a little rich right now. I shudder to think what a well setup pair of flatties can do.. Ron has also said he can fine tune the porting for more power at a later stage. Plan to do that only after i sort out the brakes! Im only just exploring the tip of the iceberg... looking forward to having a lot of fun as i get to know the bike better.
A big thank you to Ron for not just the awesome build but also the amount of patience he showed with all the niggling issues like fuel tap leaks, wiring hiccups, my late night visists etc etc.
All this wouldnt have been possible without Teji's help. I can wrench to save my life and without Teji id be stranded at every step. Thanks also to Shuvo for helping with the wiring, Wraith and CrazyD for their help with wrenching. You guys are all awesome!

Re: My build!
Thats a really nice looking bike... Congrats!!

Neat looking machine. take care of the niggling problem and she will fly.

Re: My build!
Neat looking bike. First put in a couple of thousand kms and plan the next time of modding. No point trying to make these carbs run if they are gone. Better move to flatslides.
Another important factor, dont chase BHP without an RDD Crank, you will just blow you bottom end taking out of your wisecos! So if you think you need more power just hold on till you get your crank sorted out. More power is always on the offer, Ron never runs out of tricks to extract more.
Enjoy for the moment I would say. Its a very clean bike.

Another torque-tractor. Neat stuff mate. Very nice bike.
If you have Yamaha connecting rods, you also probably have a standard crank. Get it done ASAP, I don't think cranks take more than 2 weeks anyway, once the conrods reach Ron.

Re: My build!
VERY cool looking bike, I like the simple tuning fork logo on the tank.
Re: My build!
I ran the bike in, went on a 250 km ride, I was taking sweeping curves on that thing at 100 kph in 6th gear and it still had so much grunt to just accelerate outta corners, you can't even imagine.
Very wicked setup ron.

There is no hope left when you start declutching an RD.
Re: My build!
I will never forget the look on poor sandeip's face in the basement as we started to strip his engine and one nasty surprise after the next came pouring out. With all the sympathetic comments and laughfs from all the guys there. Be it the crappy CDI or the Power Pace Pistons or the hone job that looked like it was done with a file.
From that to this is cool.
Some builds surprise even me. i.e. you build the motor and go no way this motor should be able to do this shit. These are one of those rare builds.
Looks like you had a few good Karma points tucked away somewhere and they got you such a sweet motor.
Even Im amazed by what the engine can do.
This is what I would call a sweet setup.
Very similar to Aruns RD story. i.e. over heating no power, narrow power band. To a sweet RD.
Its got Torque like a Tractor and reves our really sweet.
We can turn her nasty after you get some miles on her and the crank is sorted.
I wouldn't say there are any issues last time I rode her everything was perfect.
Just that I wouldn't turn her into a nasty with stock Rods. And I don't think you wanted a nasty girl either. In your Build Brief. Your existing bottom end seems perfect when we inspected it.

Dude, its rare for me to actually praise bikes unless there is something really special in there. This truly is one of them trust me.

So you were weeping while taking turns?

Re: My build!
Thanks all! Its been a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
I think the bike has started making so much power that seals have started to fail. I have a huge river of oil (yes a flowing river) in my basement and the dipstick says zilch!
Ron, i know you said the crank is fine for the power shes making now, but id like to get the bottom end sorted... with new seals and the works. Dont want my leaky RD to be the butt of jokes
Let me know how youre placed for a crank rebuild

Re: My build!
1 week for a Crank Rebuild.
You give me a STD Pin Crank.
I return a A RDD Crank in 7 days.
Leak could be something as simple as a Gear SHifter Oil Seal or a Neutral switch cover O-Ring.
I know for a guy who doesnt wrench it sound fancy and complex but its really only a 5 minute job.

Re: My build!
ok a taboo question but im just wondering what kind of milage u guys must get on 250 mains and ported barrels on the 350 . bet it cant be ur everyday ride to college or work unless ur vijay mallyas left ball
Re: My build!
Its not a Taboo subject but it does remind me off a Splendor guy walking up to a R1 owner with his nose in the air and asking Mileage Ka Hai.
Mileage we get is between 24-18 depends on how you drive.
I have seen RDs that give 28 if driven carefully and same bike you gas it and drive loco you get 14.
In fact 99% of the guys tell me they get better mileage post the RDD build. vs what they where getting pre RDD build with 145 jets. Go figure.
