RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
I had a digi 3 in october 2008 after my amaron battery gave up i decided never run the cdi with the battery, so sold digi 3 and and got the latest version from teji, he being a busy man and my bike was getting the disc set up so the installation took some time, finally managed some time and installed the cdi, teji thanks for your valuable time after installing the cdi the emission has gone down drastically, thanks to chinoy for giving this wondeful product, Ron Uncle thanks
This test was done on 20 feb 2009 near teji's place after picking up Chinoy Filter's.

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
Thanks thats over a 50% drop.
Typically we see more than a 90% drop but I suspect your runing the chinoy filter with larger jets.

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
hi .. got the cdi .. will be installing it soon ... but lost tejis mob no and got a doubt abt the yellow wire saying static max advance !!! .. any help thanks
Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
Yellow wire is for static mode. i.e. your tuner has convinced you that static is better.
Dont waste your time or bother trying any of the option wire unless we ask you to.
Static means the timing will not change based on RPM it will stay stuck in one position.

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
thanks sir .. am going to install it will tape all those option wires .. will come back here after some trail run
Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
Ok here i go...
Got the V5 cdi from RDD through Torque today morning. went through the doc many times. Got a confusion abt the yellow colour static max advance line .. came here irritated many ppl PMing them so many times hehe .. but every one helped me by responding immedietly and said not to touch any of the option wires unless they say so.
so went ahead and fixed the RDD Digital cdi on the bike (RX135 2003 model.. with a crome exh pipe )..
took it for a ride.. my mech and i were surprised to see my bike in super smooth condition and we even could come down to 15kmph or lil lesser more and we get a doubt that whether the bike is still on or not !!! no knocking and took it to higher rpms .. (no tacho so cant give exact figures). The bike was amazing .. running like a charm .. and felt like it is saying am ready to go even further ... hehe.. just waiting for the throttle to pull.
When i took it for a second ride to see it in single rider mode.. and came back with smiling face i see mech was recomending this DIGITAL BOX FROM B''LORE (thats what he call ) to another guy who is having a rx 135 ...that he was planning to sell . I allowed him to take a ride and feel himself abt this digital cdis performance ..he was happy too..
Then i called Teji again for the timing advancing doubt which came.i wanted to go to the next step... to try the drilling hole method and see howz the performance.so went to the workshop nearby and asked them to do drills on 4mm from current position as shown in the pic. But here came the problem 4 mm was too close to the hole already there . Since the stock drill was a tapper hole he dint go with drilling instead he filed it !!! and using vernier he made holes as we asked.(mean time i called teji again and asked abt can i go lil more say 5 to 8 mm .. he said max is 5 dont go 8 and all..)so got this done but took some time in fixing it back since the screw also had tapered head it just fall back to original hole when we do the final fixing.so finally some how managed to fix it in place.. new timing 4 degree advance. and fixed everything and started the bike... the bike felt it had more power and went like a race horse. but.. it dint last long. when my mech came back i went for the ride and i was sad. For starting i had to crank so many times to get it started.then the smoothness wasnt good like before.and wen i came back n kept the bike for idling speed in neutral position .. i could hear the ringing sound (dont knw what word to use.. its caused by the crank or rings play ) so mech told we will go back to previous setting tomorrow morning .. mean time pls advise abt the issues.. i still believe since it showed nice pulling in the first ride ...i guess the plate must have slipped back to a position ..must be a wrong guess.
anyways... am happy abt buying the Digital Cdi .. and for last few weeks i was recomending ppl abt this.. i hope few of them will place order soon.. more review abt the performance and emmision values i will post later
by the way second unit is still with me for that rx 100 of my friend. will install it tommorw or day after .
i should really thank teji and ron sir and all other senior members like reaper and all for the quick response and all the support. very happy indeed.
finally sorry for making this a long story.. thought if some one like me try to install will get a clear pic of what i went through. ..

Welcome to the RDD trip. .
I'd recommend you back off the timing by half and then start upjetting. What position is the needle clip in and what jets are you using?

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
a. If your over the moon with the way the bike ran when you first installed it. Keep it that way.
b. It sounds like you have advanced the timing a tad too much.
When you advance your timing your jeting goes lean.
I would try a richer clip position before reverting.

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
Start from stock timing and move in very small jumps of 1 deg at a time, where you feel it runs best, max being 4 deg, keep it there and enjoy.
There is no hope left when you start declutching an RD.
Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
thanks sir.. for the tip .. will surely report back after trying a richer clip position ..
abt the upjeting and jet size .. hmm i can only reply after i ask my mech..i doubt he knows that hehe.. am not being rude... my place mechs almost forgot yamaha rx and those who were reliable and trustworthy went to gulf !!!( middle east ) and we have yam showroom which have lesser spares that i have in my house lol..
and mech there tuned my carb once i had to spend 250 rs for just riding 60kms .. but there are a lot of rx here thats what surprises me .. but i came to knw these ppl r happy the way it is running and hardly care abt maintenance i guess.
but i would really like to knw what exactly happend wen i advanced.. why all the fun gone hmm though i remember my mech saying "" its showing a great power it seems u only take less than a hr to reach cochin from now on"" (normally i need 2 hrs plus ) but wen i took for a ride it was smooth first slowly power went down and that Tak Tak sound started gettting more audible.
[one mistake we did. better say i did. i allowed him to hit the shaft twice since the puller wasnt working !!!! but he said the mags have been removed already before so it will come off easily ..and it came easily.the mech is not a huge built up guy .. he is so short and looks like a 8th std kid did this cause the tak tak sound ?? my shaft ]

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
Timing,as Ron said has an effect on jetting. The more advance you run,the leaner the jetting gets.Think of it as your burning the fuel faster than the piston can travel upwards, since the spark timing has moved forward. In order to combat this effect, there are 2 options.
1)Upjet/richen your fuel mixture and then hold on for life.
2)Rotate the plate back to stock and enjoy it until you can get bigger jets.
Hope this helps.
Additionally, make sure the drum has been locked back in place properly.Use a good spring washer. You can test this at home by undoing the case cover and using a magnet pulley.Check the drum has been mounted back properly.

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
Is your bike stock or modified ?
If its a RX100 you have a smaller piston hence flame path travel is less.
Hence you may not be able to run as much advance i.e. 4 deg as the RXG boys run. The RXG boys have larger combustion chambers and can handle more advance.

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
one more doubt pls .. hmm .. abt the degrees and mm values.. in the doc it says drill a hole 4mm away from stock drill holes. and other place i saw its written ""advance timing 4 degrees.:"" the doubt is .. is 1mm movement is equalent to 1 degree i doubt that .. not trying to act smart just a genuine doubt.. pls clear this bro.
Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
but sir .. mine is Rx135 2003 model .. but i bought this as a second hand bike .. and it was registered in a old buddas name .. i knw these wont answer the question abt stock or not ..but it looks like its untouched in many places and story was like he fell from this bike and he sold it.. though i didnt see any damage on engine side wen i bought ..it was smooth. tommorw should i ask my mech to open and see the piston and all .. here ppl recomend as long as it runs dont touch anythings .... and wen we talk all theories n fundas they laugh at us hehe ..
Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
Thaz barely any advance you put in.
You need to drill the holes at the red marked positions in this pic... http://img187.imageshack.us/img187/239/image021f.jpg

Re: RDD digi cdi ver 5 feedback
owh God... tommorow i have to wear helmets and go to workshop..lol.. i said my mech dont knw anything but .. i feel that was a very very big mistake to say..but there is something with this guy that works ... cos first time he took the plate out he said "" seems like these r the places to drill holes "" and it was !!!! i argued with him abt 4 mm .. i still have to measure again to see why my 4 mm didnt go till there hmm ??
(now i knw where did i go wrong will try not to do this again shouldnt have talked against him )
sorry if i wasted ur precious time and energy ... sorry mates.
so tomorrow after trying the new timing and will check the semicercular clips (cerclip ?) i will report back. thanks
