4S Head Rework 5S Barrel - feedback

Post by voodoo_child »

Installed the 4-speed head reworked by Ron on my bike. She's on a stock 5-speed barrel with Dreams CDI v3 and Chinoy Filter. Now she runs quick, stays in the powerband while I'm shifting to higher gears unlike earlier. Still coming to terms with the power delivery of a 5-speed barrel since I'm used to driving a 4-speed bike all my life which had much more torque at the low end. Anyway, I'm liking the way she builds up gradually, revving out more than before and staying up there :)

However, I noticed that now I'm getting a kind of grinding/slap noise from the engine when throttle is opened. I'm not too sure if its related or not, but I checked that the head doesn't touch the top of the piston crown and the piston itself was not protruding out of the barrel before mounting the head. I'm just concerned if I've missed out on anything...I need help on this one.

I suspect the culprit is the rotor motor, please check it up

Dude Santosh_rx WTF is is rotor motor ?
Where do you guys come up with this crap man.
Your running your stock Rotor right ? Its not been touched right ? Then what would that have to do with anything ?

Take off the head and check to see if its touching anywhere. If its not then your engine is probably worn.
i.e. Too many miles or clearance.
In addition make sure your running good gas. If the sound goes away with higher octane gas, its detonation on the crap gas.
You can take the timing back a few degrees.

I just suspect its a worn motor that isnt used to seeing so much power.
It was limping along at 10 BHP and now all off a sudden your making it work real hard.

How many Kms has your engine done ?

Ron...its a relatively new Barrel, has done about 1000 odd km. I did the initial run-in for about 300 km and I was light on throttle with short bursts of power. After that I've driven normally around the city, revving her to the redline a few times in 10 sec bursts.
Also I'm using the premium gas by Shell called Super Unleaded. I dont know its octane rating, neither the guys who fill the gas.

Maybe its deto, as Teji suspects...I'll call him sometime.

Ok. From my side what I can only repeat what I told you earlier.
a. Make sure the piston is not touching. The head. We are talking clearences off under 1mm and I dont get to see the engine.
So its up to you to make sure the head is not touching it shouldnt be.

b. Teji runs regular pump gas with a way more radical head cut. And 26 Deg of timing. That should give you some idea of what is needed. Do you know what your timing is ?

Shell is 91 octane, pretty good petrol.

Met up with Teji yesterday morning, he rode the bike and found nothing wrong...I mean, he didnt hear any weird or deto sounds. Suspected its probably the flutter from Chinoy Filter at some rpms when the throttle is around half way - WOT. He said the compression is optimum and jetting is good though just a tad on the richer side, which is fine.

torqu3e verdict - Nothing to worry, go burn some rubber and have fun :)

Also got a chance to meet Shuvo and Neuro (?) for a few minutes.

Thanks guys!

You should not change more than one thing at a time.
Golden rule.
Also intake sound and exhaust note will change with mods. But it head mods or Air filter.
