Purple Intro

Post by ThePurpleMonster »

Hi... ThePurpleMonster here, a long time lurker, became a recent member after getting hold of an RD. Location is Trivandrum.

Dad had a Rajdoot 175, got exposed to RDs during visits to the dealer service centers and the promotional get-togethers the dealer organized. Fell in love with the beast, though it was a distant dream. All this was in the late eighties. Then like a jilted lover, went on with life, career, marriage. People talk of seven-year itches, thats around the time got bit by nostalgia - and the sleeping desire started to find its way back. This forum has been my refuge during many a sleepless night since then. Favorite activity being googling for sale RDs through out India (pathetic, yeah I know), culminating in finally acquiring an RD earlier this year.

People here talk about bhp, rpm, stock, wrench... nothing wrong with that, I admire the passion, but for me none of that matters. Only thing that I care about is that I have an RD - a 25 year dream finally achieved. I don't have to make it scream, kick some Pulsars or ZMAs to submission - just a calm ride through the streets is enough to make a statement. People automatically slow down just to get a glimpse. Once in a while an upstart has to be put in place and then back to casual cruising...

With the pros come the cons - twice so far changed the clutch cable, changed sparks, tachometer not working, kick start lever spring not working, need to find bulbs for all indicators, rear grab rails - and need to buy the RDD CDI Kit etc etc etc

Special thanks to ^Dan^ for helping me find some cables. Stocked up on all cables from Sivaram Auto Parts in Killipalam, Trivandrum. Tried to install a clutch cable myself - and in the process totally messed up the allen head screw using the allen keys I had - finally brought in a local mechanic who unscrewed it by converting the allen head into a regular flat head using a flathed screwdriver tip and a good old hammer... oh the joy of being an amateur... now I have to find two allen head screws as replacements.

Anyway, it is a pleasure and a release to visit the site and read other peoples pleasure and pain. Hope to pick up some pointers and one day actually do some small time wrenching...
