had an awesome ride this saturday. let rip a bit.
the engine you have made ron, is unbelievable. i wanted a midrange bike to ride in the mountains, and thats what it is. period.
i still cant believe it. not that it puts insane ammount of power, but the feel of the whole package is awesome.
bottom end is a little more than decent. by the time it reaches 4k rpms, she starts pulling... on and on... with exponentially increasing intensity till the top. (cant say what rpms, because of my uselessly optimistic tacho) But in the end... no way it feels like a four stroke. (for the uninitiated: that is a good thing)
the best bit of the ride was when coming down to sea level, 1/3 way down the jetting ended up just right. and there was this long long left hander on a six lane patch. started opening the throttle half way through. the front end was light by the end of it. and man the pull was nice!
coming back, i was panaroid. is she overheating? detonating? i open the throtle a bit more and she surges ahead. no issues. each and every time. i guess its going to take me some time to accept my bike is running perfectly.
among the things to do, i need to find fuel consumption accurately but our ballpark figures suggest a number easily above 15 on the highway run.
waited 26 months for this. annother 12 if you add the painful time i had with this bike was before handing over to ron.
is it worth it?
TOTALLY!

RE: Sling
Thanks for the kind words sling.
Patience always pays off.
Treat her well. And she will give you thousands of trouble free miles.
15 for a ported RD being pushed thru the hills is pretty good.
If you keep her in 6th and ride sanely you should get around 22 or more.
After the run in you can back off the jets a bit say 10 to 20 sizes. I like to keep freshly rebuilt engines filthy rich. You should land up at around 210 to 220 on the mains. And 25 on the pilots. If Pune and Bangalore are at the same elevation.
Use some motul 800 and she will give you many trouble free years of service.
Dont abuse the engine, warm her up, never rape the engine in 1st gear. Never power shift. But I think you know all this and take good care of her anyway.
Get yourself an extra set of Pro-X or Art Rings and change the rings at around 15,000 Kms or when the ring end gap gets too much.
Enjoy man.
Ps: Funny thing Dreams. Danny would keep telling me about his dream RD. And how he would ride it in the hills. How the stock RD power band sucked for the hills. He would go on and on about his dream setup. Your Engine layout as you know was inspired by his dreams for the ultimate RD for the hills. He never got to experience his dream setup after he was expelled from IIM and went back to Shillong but so many others have.

RE: Sling
thats sad about danny. are you still in touch?
the jetting down has gradually started from yesterday.
still a tiny ammount of work left on the bike, mostly cosmetic. want to say with conviction that there are no jugads on the bike. and she is close
the guy who sells allen bolts got to know me very well in the past month or so.
actually i did calculate it to be 22 but wanted to double check such a large number. If you keep her in 6th and ride sanely you should get around 22 or more.
