Another RD fan from Bangalore

Post by Reddream »

Firstly I am not sure if it is ok start a new topic for intro, excuse me for that.

Like all kids I loved bikes, my very elder brothers had RXs and KBs when I was a kid. My fascination for bikes started with the Shogun Adv on TV, and when I saw a guy on a Shogun clipping on MG Road with a girl behind with a short skirt hugging him. This was I guess 1995 and I was in High school. I made up my mind then that I need to be that guy on that bike. Another incident I still clearly remember, I was cycling up Kamaraj road to school (near St. Marks road) when I heard a different sound, a rumble, an angry subdued roar ( 5th gear @ 80kmph LT ) tearing up the steep up ( nightmare up for cycle riders ), I didn’t know which bike it was till I saw the same bike in front of my school, the first thing I noted was that it had 2 carbs. The questions I asked the owner then was how fast can it go, and he said as fast as you can. I couldn’t believe that bike had a meter with 200kmph on it.

These memories are still fresh in my mind. I did buy a new Shogun when I got a chance ( when I was 18 and got my licence), it was 1998 and clipped up and down MG road and at times with a girl ( but mini’s were out of fashion when I got a chance ).

My dad thought that a RD was a flop junk bike and never wanted to buy me one. So, the first thing I bought when I got my paycheck in the year 2001 was to buy a RD. That was when I came across this site, and I blundered in the purchase of the RD. I was conned big time, and I remember writing mails to Chinoy about it. As time went by I started accepting what I had and learnt to love it with all the flaws it had ( I was getting prepared to get married someday ).

I wanted to learn to repair bikes, so spent lot of time reading stuff and spent my Sunday’s all by myself and my RD, trying to fix it. Timing was a big problem I had, didn’t know how to sort it and still working on it. I wanted to put an RDD CDI kit, but somehow I still wanted to play around with timing points to learn about engines and also never ridden a CDI RD, so never hooked on it, plus I hear people say that points are sweet to run ( I guess the power delivery curve ).

Anyway, that is how I got passionate about bikes, and I guess I am an introvert and feel guilty at times that there are so many people here so passionate about bikes that I might sound stupid to comment on things. So, I just read stuff here and ponder about it.

Other than bikes, I love reading (novels, automobile, sound engineering ), listening to music.

I am a software engineer working on embedded systems ( another story on how I landed here ).

I love riding hard, looking forward to riding on the track, riding 100% with no margin for potholes, dogs, running, on coming traffic, sand / water on road. Have a book by Kenny Roberts ( Art of motorcycle racing ) and read fully, hope to put some learning to use on the track.

Thanks for reading, happy riding / tinkering / dreaming.
