Digital CDI installed !!!!
Got the CDI installed and running yesterday, all thanks to Rash (basically, he installed the CDI and I waited around trying to be of some use LOL), and I have to say, IT REALLY IS FRIGGING AWESOME.
Didn't notice too much of a difference in the narrow bylanes of Deccan Gymkhana, where I could barely get it up to 40 kmph, except that it pulled slightly stronger from lower down in the rev-range and seemed to rev out smoothly and quickly. Got home feeling a little underwhelmed about the whole thing but thought I'd reserve final opinion for later.
Cleaned up the filters, re-oiled and installed them, and took her out for a late night spin and WHOA !!!!! it was "HOLY JESUS ON A PONY" time !!! The damn thing JUST FRIGGING WANTS TO GO AND GO AND KEEP GOING. I was ripping up and down the Le Meridien / Sun 'n Sands lane just to revel in its smooth and punchy power delivery. Power comes in about 500 or so RPM earlier than points and stays on till the very end. No rapid tail-off after 5000 odd rpm, no hesitation whatsoever. She'll rev out as much as you ask her to.
For the first time in my life, I was revving the tits off a motorcycle, ANY motorcycle. Even vibes have reduced to a pleasant buzz (when I first got the bike, it felt like the crank was shot or something, that changed a lot for the better after the bigger jets was installed and now it is "simbly sublime") and it only gets smoother as the revs climb.
And this, inspite of the fact that my carbs are really badly set-up, so I only shudder to think what'll she be like once the rest of the bike is running how it should be.
Was not able to check using a reliable tacho, but on a very conservative estimate, I can confidently say that she revs out ATLEAST 1500 rpm HIGHER than the points setup (and my points setup was SPOT-ON).
Other changes as checked today morning:
Hydrocarbon emissions figure dropped from 1437 to 985
CO emissions figure dropped from 3.11 to 2.09
Visible smoke has reduced DRASTICALLY, no smoke-screen and angry stares from other riders, at a red-light, anymore
No burning smell after hard ripping
No "fire under the balls" feeling after hard ripping or crawling in dense traffic
Headlight is brighter and flickers less than even modern bikes, when idling
I plan to re-check pollution figures after I service the carbs.
Last but not the least.... THANKS RON FOR PERSERVERING WITH YOUR VISION. I can confidently state that I have never been as satisfied with anything else that I have bought in my life, as I have been with this product, the RDD Digital 100-watt CDI.
