I got my RDD CDI !!!
I got my RDD CDI !!!
It has been a long time in the coming, at last it happened today.
I got the RDD CDI installed in my RD and Ron himself was kind enough to spend time and assist in the install and verify the timing in the end.(One thing I do not understand is, how can one goof up with the install of this CDI? It seems idiot proof...plug and play stuff, if you have average IQ and some knowledge of what a CDI is and what it does - even if one knows jackshit about bikes, with clear instructions Ron gives, only a color blind man can install it wrongly).
The bike started in first kick(on a not too good condition battery, I should say) and after confirming the timing, I took it for a test ride. Boy, I was grinning from ear ro ear after that ride. If initial impressions count, then I was really impressed. The bike has become much smoother and low end grunt has improved. Not checked top end yet, but seems to be accelerating a lot better that the old CDI setup.
Ron, Thanks a lot.
Will keep u posted with further updates as I clock more kms.

How do I put a "Thumbs up" sign against this topic??
RE: I got my RDD CDI !!!
Thanks Sid.
Ask I saw you rocket down the road. I couldnt help wonder wouldnt it have been fun if Madhu was arround to see the improvement to the bike.

Slowly and steadily Ron is getting all indian RD's to the point where they are genuinely scary and dollops of fun. This is a silent revolution of sorts. Silent not because RD's are quiet bikes but silent because no one outside our circle even knows about this mind-boggling invention. I sure hope that the upcoming track day changes that.
Ride safe dear Sid.

This should not be the case...we should spread the word....Silent not because RD's are quiet bikes but silent because no one outside our circle even knows about this mind-boggling invention.
Have fun Sid....

Re: RE: I got my RDD CDI !!!
I had bought the bike(i.e fixed the deal) without as much as a test ride. Landed in Bangalore 7 a.m, Madhu was waiting in front of coffee house with the bike. Had a blast on MG road and I told madhu that the bike wasn't redlining but he gave me some gyaan on acceleration at that time. I knew the bike was reliable, so I picked it up without argument, but I knew that the CDI was the culprit.chinoy wrote:Thanks Sid.

At the mech's too, I was told that it is an RD CDI, but I knew it was not. Having said that, I should also say that the old CDI was eminently reliable. It used to start first kick even after a month of lying idle and the performance was decent. Only I wanted the best for my bike, so changed over to RDD CDI.
Now that stutter towards the redline is gone, but I cannot say how much more it is revving as the tacho drive went kaput sometime back. Will do a top speed run one of these days and then I will know the actual performance difference.
RE: Re: RE: I got my RDD CDI !!!
Top speed may or may not increase. Its primary objective is give you a strong spark. Good crisp throtel responce. Boost midrange, improve mileage and drop emmisions.
Yes a KB/Shogun CDI is simple and reliable. But not designed to power a twin cylinder setup with 4 sparks per rotation. It will run the bike. But as you have seen there is a big diffirence between runing the bike and what you have now.

What "silent" revolution man? Somebody built me a pair of pipes and I have turned deaf in a day.
@Sid : Way to go...

Some men have thousands of reasons why they cannot do it, what they need is one reason why they can.
