Razing of New Members and Puting them down.

Post by chinoy »

There has been some debate among the eleders.
As to the trend of razing new members and puting them down. Or maybe just opening their eyes or trying to unplug them from the Matrix to quiclly.

Ok here is my take.
When I first started out. With over a 100,000 miles of riding experience. Never loosing a road race in my life. And thinking I was super smart cause my RD had the best mileage and could take out any RD in India.

Then I joined Alexes RD forum. Where I opened my mouth and made my self the right laughfing stock of everbody there. I quiclly learnt that if you want to learn. Im talking really learn one must learn to humilate one self. To lay one self open to ridicule and abuse. Be talked down to by everybody. THats the fastest way to learn. And Learn I did. I left Alexes forum as a Moderator. And the reason being there was a conflict of intrest with my selling parts. I have gone on and moved thru may forums. Often ridiculed often made fun off. But allways learning.
It was a price one must be willing to pay to learn.
THe people in an online community are not paid for sharing what they know. There are those that contribute and those that only are sponges. The sponges must live with some humility till they learn to contribute.

My sole reason for seting up RDD was everytime an Indian guy would join some foregin forum he would make a total arse of him self.
I somehow wished there was an Indian comunity where people shared info and if you where made to look like a fool it was by a fellow countryman. No where half as humilating as making an arse of your self in front of other countries. Hence RDD. So the Indian automotive enthuaist could learn something and hold hsi head up high where ever they went online.

As to ribing newcomers. I look at it as the ribing you get when you join collage. If your mature and know your shit nobody picks on your. If your wet behind the ears. And totally fresh some raging is to be expected.

As to puting others down. We dont spend our time waiting for an oportunity to put people down. And show our selfs as superior. But sometimes thats the way it looks.

Hence the elders feel we need to be more sensetive towards the new comers. We have to deal with them more sensetivelly. And try to avoid puting them down.

Some raging will continue but its just that. If somebody cant take it back off. No use pushing an issue to the point that it upsets somebody.

My golden rule is try and keep the genral mood upbeat and positive.
Any negative posts or personal attacks be removed.

If you dont like a post feel free to contact the moderator and have the post removed.

For the new comers try and show some respect. Most of the elders on the forum. Have seen a lot of life. And know their subject.
There are no stupid people on this forum. New or old just people intrested in learning and sharing. THe more you contribute the more you turn from a sponge to a contributor.
And the others will try and be more suportive and caring with the new comers.

I dont think people should have any problem geting along.
Most of the guys who make it to the meets. Are extremelly Inteligent. Above normal IQs.
Level headed and mature bikers. You could tranpose these bunch of guys to any location in the world and they would fit in.
It great to have such a cool bunch of guys get together.

Hehehe I remember my first few days at RDD..... I used to think "how can 30 odd bhp make these people SO arrogant?" Then I discovered 2 things: 1) Most of the bikes here are NOT just "30 odd bhp" and there is a good reason behind the irritability and lack of tolerance among the older members. The reason is that most of the newbies enter the forum NOT with an intention to learn or imbibe knowledge about motorcycles, but just out of curiosity and sometimes to find a bike because it is "cool" to have one. Often these newbies think they know all there is to know about RD's and end up rubbing people here, the wrong way. I didnt know jackshit about sleeves or oversize pistons or porting or digital ignition systems before I came here but I was eager to learn, if only to avoid getting conned by people who wanted to sell me an RD that couldnt even keep up with a 100 cc 2-stroke. And I can confidently say that RDDreams DID help me a lot. Had it not been for the guys here, I would be riding a tired, slow RD today, only for the "sound and light show", getting sniggered at, by Karizma / Comet riders, and not the red bitch that scares 600 cc superbikes on this side of 100 kmph. I am going to stay with this forum for the rest of my life.

the irritability and lack of tolerance among the older members
Actually this is not very true.....most of the elders i know in this forum are very tolerant and they have never hit me on my head hearing my stupid doubts.....well leg pulling is a different things......

as long as anybody joins here to learn they are fine...well if you wanna boast about doing 140+ on you 4 stroke you are better off at some other place......

I agree CrazyD, being a newbie to this forum my experince has been good. In fact one of the elders encouraged me to go ahead and post question no matter if they were stupid or had been answered before cuz he thought it helped them to brush up their skills.
e.g I posted a query and got bout 11 replies in 3 hrs....
I'm flattered
