upgrade from scooty pep cdi to RDDREAMS digital cdi!

Post by derek »

hehehehe
yep finally happened...after buggin the life outta the ol man,i get my black box!
fitted it today, fired up the bike and bike sounded like and RD now (maybe its just my imagination :) )
took it for a spin, power comes on low in the band but suddenly cuts off at 5.5k rpm.....
confused like hell, thought maybe ron gave me a cdi with rev limiter for no additional cost hehe :)
thought about it,my mistake, didnt eliminate the wasted spark :)
NOW wiring set up correct, take another spin, and loved it!!!
bikes feels much more stronger (obviously),smoother power delivery, great bottom and midrange, all in all bike does not feel tired even after continous blasting :)
I think i have eliminated all my ignition problems with the cdi....its amazing how a tiny pipi black box can make so much difference to a bikes performance :)
All those thinking of gettin one, stop thinking and get one before the ol man goes into hibernation :)
now i cant ever imagine running a bike on points or shitty cdi's again, the difference is huge.........
This doesnt mean i've added 10bhp to my bike, but in all honesty the difference is there to be seen and felt.
i think i did about 80 kms after i fitted the cdi tonight,i couldnt help it,i was having so much fun!:)
Dont ask me about average i cudnt give a shit.......:)
End of rant.......
Moral of story:quality does come for a price,im another happy chappy customer, and im glad i got the box.
i may not be a very smart guy,or may not have all the tech knowhow of the RD,but even an idiot like me can spot the difference, past and now with the cdi.
thanks again ron.
gonna fly real low soon!

Well enjoy it. Its the last CDI going out to Bombay. Anybody else wants one can contact a dealer in Germany. Now

Keep an eye on the jeting. We have found you can normally burn a lot more gas with the better spark. Chk your Polution it should be less now. Mileage will also improve upto 10% but depends on road and riding style.

Your base timing of 2.2mm is very safe. And conservative starting point. YOu can bump it up a bit once your confident the bike isnt over heating. Or detonating.

The values are
Deg-MM
21- 2.22
22- 2.43
23- 2.65
24- 2.88

You set 2.2mm right thats 21 Deg. Thats absurdlly safe. But better safe than sorry.
Next you can try 2.4mm then next try 2.6mm and so on. I normally run 2.6 on most stock RDs but your bike isnt stock. What you can get away with runing is based on MSV and quality of gas.

I think the static timing on an RD is the number one reason for stuck pistons, melted domes and other asorted problems. Static timings and any engine in the year 2005 is senseless and just asking for trouble.
I have encountered a drastic drop in engine failures. Stuck pistons and seizures with the Digital CDI. The customers are reporting much smoother reving engines and cooler temps.
Heat is your number one enemy on an RD and a good curve goes a long way in helping you keep it under control.
THis is all the more true of bikes which have been modifed. Shaved heads ported barrels. High MSVs and static timing a big no no stupido.
People will rebuild their engines 3-4 times when for the cost of one piston they could have solved the problem.
The more I study whats going on inside an engine the more & more the idea of a static timing curve seems absurd to me.
