RDD Launches Digital CDI - II

Post by chinoy »

Firstlly a big thanks to our foregin customers. Its you guys who make what I do possible. Which is living my dream. Doing what I like.

We are constantlly striving to improve the kit. And you have seen it evolve over the years. Development on the Digital Kit has been rapid. From the basic static Digital Units shipped in Jan-04 to now.

This is our first Major Revision to the Digital CDI. ANd will be called Digital II or Rev b. It will be Launched in Dec. And the critical part is we wont be charging you more for it. The new CDI will go out free with every kit at the same price as the old Analogue CDI kit. As allways we have retained backward integration with every kit sold to date. So no matter which kit your runing of ours. This unit is a simple 2 minute plug in replacement. And is being offered at very reasonable prices to existing owners of our kit.

Here are some of the features.

1. Choice of Exposed Chip or Concealed Chip. Extra chips with diffirent curvers can be purchased. With the kit or at a later date.

2. Each chip will contain two curves. To start with curve 1 will be our best curve to date and curve 2 will be static. Two wires will be provided. To chose the curve. Shorted = Curve1 and open = Curve 2

3. A jumper will be provided to select between wasted spark on or off. Jumper open = With wasted spark. Jumper closed = without wasted spark.

4. Rev Limiter will be set at 13,000 by default.

5. We encourage customers to chose their own rev limit RPM and timing curve. These custom curves and rev limit setings will be put onto each CDI at no extra cost.

We are working on offering a TPS throtel cable you can use on your RD.

If there are any other features youd like. Let us know soon. Because we need to freeze on the PCB design. And move towards production.

This CDI can also be odered for the RZ & Banshee. Im runing the prototype on my RZ350 YPVS and its performing much better than stock.

We are also working on providing a Tacho output which can be used with any Tacho. Even four stroke electrical Tachos. The same output can be used for software like street dyno and road dyno.

SOmebody mailed in this question asking how the tacho would work when chosing between wasted and non wasted spark in the new CDIs that we are plaing to release shortlly.

The answer is the code detects what mode has been selected and outputs the correct RPM irsepective of wether wasted or non wasted has been chose. The output is a 5 Volts d/c pulse.

Another question is can we switch between wasted and not wasted with the engine runing.

THe answer is on the test jig it seems to work. On the bike also it works if the RPM is a little over idle. Like wise shifting between curves is also possible while keeping the bike runing i.e. you dont have to reset the CPU or start stop the engine to switch curves.

New curves being tested and developed for this series for Indian RDs are
1. Mileage Curve / Power curve.
2. HT Curve / LT Curve
3. Specific curves based on customers mods
4. Specific curves based on type of roads used.

We are depending on a new combustion modell to be released by Vanik racing to achive the best results. So it may take some time to come out. But when it does Im sure the results will be amazing.

Our digital CDIs are designed to run without a bat.
Using low voltage CPUs.
Present testing is going well. And the CPU seems happy to run off the a/c generated by the magneto without a bat.
The CDI has a built in Cap and RR. Which converts the a/c from the magneto to d/c for the CPU.
