Baaaaad Motor. Sit.

Post by howler »

It's taken me some time to write this, mainly because I wasn't happy. I wasn't happy because my expectations in my head didn't quite match my butt dyno. That was all until everything settled down and fell into place and decided to give me a proper kick in the nuts  ... After all, its not easy to build a motor in one place and them remotely set it up in another.
All this started a few years ago, when I finally managed to get my hands on a knackered rd at a price that didn't kill me, this was after a lifetime of drooling after rd's but I never had enough money to get one. I was a lurker on the forum and had been reading up on what experiences ppl had with rddreams motors so I was pretty sure that this is where I wanted to get it built. the motor was pile of junk with one ht barrel and a ported lt barrel, both sleeved with lambretta rods. I guess someone thought they had cracked the rddreams ht/lt combo puzzle.
Well I did get in touch with Ron initially but he was full up with no openings in sight, so picked up the cdi from Josh in Bombay and decided id get a basic engine job done so that it was at least fun to ride. Just my luck that Ron msgd back with an opening and I was all set!! big thanks to Josh for accommodating me and understanding my situation, he was all for it and I was off with the motor to Bangalore \:D/ .. fast forward to Feb2014.. Josh was going to build the rest of the bike and plonk the motor in once it was done, Ron managed to get the motor across to me and this is what I ended up with
wisecos
Taiwan US spec barrels with some funky magic (I really don't know what hes done to it !!)
LC rods
rddreams crank
unis
and god knows what else,, it doesn't really matter, the pudding tastes f*****g awesome !!

Josh got the bike running dialled back the timing and I was all set for a trip to the moon. too high.., it didn't feel right at first and after a lot of calls to Ron and bugging Josh I decided id just run the motor and let it settle in. and settle in it did, switched to motul tightened a few loose screws and tube, the motor settled in and then I got hammered.. the past two weeks has been a trip, the motor is a FREAK!!!! period..
I thought with the barrels originally being US spec id have problems in the city,, [-X .. its a torque monster!!!! once open its another story altogether... open throttle, screaming motor, wide grin, butt dyno malfunction.

Ron: im still getting to grips with it, its a work of art. THANK YOU!!! :D :D its only going to get better with time. and it just wants to keep pulling !!! I just do not feel like riding anything else,
to all you ppl with a rd and a plan, save up and get a slot. in the end its all worth it. im not very good at this writing stuff but you get the picture.

Another Happy ending.
To a life long quest.
It wasn't easy trying to setup a bike in another city. But both you and josh showed maturity and patience.

What we do with engines is Art. And it gives me the greatest pleasure when customers see it as an art form.
I know that long after I am dead and gone somebody somewhere will be blasting down a dusty Indian road. With a ear to ear smile.
These builds are my legacy to the world and my customers.
Enjoy.

Thank you for your trust, patience, confidence, & the opportunity to share and be part of your dreams.

That's awesome man. Glad you're finally enjoying it. Once you're hooked to the powerband you'll never wanna ride anything else.
Ron's magic is something else all togehter
