Welcome and I hope your knowledge and appreciation of 2 strokes grows by leaps and bounds!
Got a question for you, since you mentioned where you work: does that Mercedes service station get to see any late 1970s 300Ds (W123 series), and are parts for them terribly hard to obtain? My uncle has one of those for sale and I was wondering about spares, etc. Thanks in advance.

Re: Hello People ... Here to learn
Thanks sid.
Yes we do get to see the old 300D's but its like ones in a month or two.May be the other owners prefer to get the works done at the earlier Mercedes dealership which is no longer authorized because of the cost factor.
I have no idea about the spares availability & cost for these cars but i will ask about it tomorrow & get back to you.
In-case you know of any specific part you will be needing let me know as these dealership people call up in plant which is in pune itself & check for the availability.

Welcome aboard Neil. Must be having great exposure to the Mercedes tech in your present assignment.
@Sid- Do a compression check on the engine. The 300D is a friggin tank and should serve you well. Plenty of 190's and 300's are worked upon by a specialist garage here in Punjab and they run reliably. Will try and locate the exact address and contact #.

Re: Hello People ... Here to learn
Thanks gurjinder. Yes i am getting some serious exposure here especially the engine rebuilds. Have assisted on the 611 which came on E280 & the latest E350's engine W212 and these two engines in the first month itself. There are 3 more engines waiting but since i am on training i cant get to assist on them.
I thought i would hardly get to see engines being overhauled in mercedes.Frankly i have learnt more about the engines here than in the maruti authorized garage.Head overhaul (cleaning valves, changing steam seals, lapping) to finding out new main bearing measurements, oil clearances, piston to bore clearances, etc etc all upto engine timing. we were playing on the V6's timing right from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm.
Maybe this isnt all that special but for a first timer getting to do all this just excites me up & gives me the confidence of overhauling and doing a little tweaking of my karizma's engine.

Re: Hello People ... Here to learn
Thanks Neil, I can't say for sure what parts might need replacement since that car (pic here: https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/p ... directlink) runs well, AC works, no unusual noises, etc. Run barely 1.5 lakh km and selling for about the same number in rupees. When i was a kid all the ultra rich folks used to go around in those beauties, and since they're engineered like no other car, they last forever!
I hardly like to drive these days in Bangalore due to the traffic and parking woes, but a car like that is a classic, and my uncle even told me i could pay in installments, so it's a tempting buy. I believe it has the 5 cylinder OM617 3.0 liter diesel. In the remote event that I decide to go for it, i'll be sure to contact you about spares that it may need.
Thanks again~!

Hey Neil,
I used to work with Mercedes benz as a homologation engineer back in 2003-04. Did you get your training at the plant itself?
Is Mr.Chavan Still there in the training department?
Regards
Rahul

You talking about the Mechatronic course ? No i am not doing the Mechatronic course from plant but a new Certificate Course Of Automated Mechatronics from Government Polytechnic Pune, its a 6 month course. Its basically the same Mechanical module,Electronics Module & the System module but the system is not much in deep.
No idea abut Mr.Chavan, i know Mr Deshmukh & Chandavarkar.

The best part is since there are limited members the discussions aint long nor out of topic like on other forums. The threads are topics focused & most of them are the long posts by chenoy sir which are fun to readcyanide wrote:So you found your way here. Mr.Chandavarkar!! He is a great guy. We used to live in the same apartment complex when I was in Pune. He's always been like a mentor to me.

Ohh HIee .. Your post did sound like you knew me. And anyways it was your thread on t-bhp which when following (your DIY porting job,you had put a video of it too) mr chenoy had made a post saying there was still lots of room for improvement & he was willing to do it for you free of cost Thats when i did a little research on mr chenoy & finally found RDDcyanide wrote:I am Pranav, in case you don't know
