hats off to rdd!!
Hi i'm savio and i have an '84 ht, got the bike from one of my friend. I got crazy about rd s right from my 7th std because my uncle had one but unfortunately he died in an accident when i was in my ninth std...so my next biggest dream after finishing school was to get an rd back in 2000 at those times my parents were scared to get me one because of my uncle's accident, what else to say i was damn bloody unlucky, and while in college i always used to search for rd s under my budget but even then the prices were so high and i got disappointed and finally when i got out of college the prices were so high that a guy whom i know sold his rd said to be in showroom condition for 2lacs upon hearing this i lost all my hopes and during the same time i met with an accident (a very serious one) and got back alive with some multiple fractures and was in bed for around 7 months and finally when i started walking around with crutches one of my friend gave me a call and said about an rd thats up for sale for 55k...upon hearing this i was so happy and i started calling up all my contacts to borrow money, 1k from here 8k from there and so on...and somehow i managed to get 57k and went over to buy the bike and the previous owner of the bike, a guy of my age, didn't actually make any demands about the price so i paid him all the money i had and took home the bike which was my dream machine for 10 long years, with a big wide smile on my face.
And out of excitement i didn't even ask that fellow's name...and after reaching home i started inspecting the bike and found that it was pretty much in stock condition with original stuff like stanley headlamps and indicators, rajdoot rims and meter console, and original handle bars with j and y punched on it and on cb points...so the next day i took it to the local mechanic who is supposed to be an rd specialist in our area and according to him the bike was perfect with every genuine part on it..nippon denso points vm28 carbs and 0.5mm over bore with a decent compression of 130psi..then i saw him take out his timing torch and adjusting the timing but no matter what he does the bike won't idle steadily and the engine becomes an oven...so i called up deepesh to find out the price of an rdd cdi and on hearing the price i got shocked because as a fresher i get only around 10k as salary and that wasn't enough to clear off the debt from owning the bike but i some how managed to get some money to pay for the cdi.
..after paying the money i used to call deepesh up every two days to find out whether ron has shipped it because i was so impatient to get my bike out(sorry deepesh to bugg you..:-))one fine day deepesh calls up to tell me that the magic stuff has arrived, upon hearing this i left immediately to cochin to collect the stuff because i couldn't wait another day for deepesh to send it to me by courier...and i rushed the package to the mechanic, and after installing everything the unit wouldn't spark and i got so damn freaked out, i thought the unit burned up due to the mechanic's fault and on seeing my tensed face he started inspecting the unit with a multimeter and said its a small bug, a small earth wire was missing from the stator plate and after soldering it out i gently pushed down the kicker to find big fat bright blue spark at the end of the ht cable even the mechanic who was adamant about cb points, was shocked to see the spark strength and slowly his opinion about rdd cdi changed from normal stuff to something special to something extraordinary and special after shining the timing torch on the flywheel..hehe...thats all for the mechanic and bike part now lemme pen down that heavenly experience i had when it took it for the first ride.
..it was slightly drizzling outside and the bike came to life on the first gentle push down the kicker and i slowly opened the throttle in first gear and the bike was begging me to rip open the throttle and i did so at the slightest hint and oh my god i didn't know what was happening for a second or two and when i became consious the engine was slightly over revving and i shifted up and ripped open the throttle again and i just couldn't hang on to the bike it felt like the handle bars were trying to pull away from my hands and i could feel my hand becoming weak from holding on to the handle bars...i was in a state of shock with excitement when i came back after the test drive and couldn't talk...and while taking the bike home my heart went racing everytime the bike came to the power band and i just couldn't believe a dynamic timing cdi could do this much.
..and after installing the cdi the engine started running much much more cooler and idling became damn steady and i could literally count the pulses from the pipes...i would like to thank ron for giving me such an amazing feeling and for making me feel like a king on the streets...i don't have words to thank you ron, even though the cdi comes for a price i believe its more like a service...a service for brothers in the same family...and now our passion for that wonderful machine makes us all eligible for brotherhood...rd for life \m/ <3

Re: hats off to rdd!!
Thanks for the kind words.
Yes I have dedicated close to 10 years of my life to refining this product. Both in terms of hardware and the most critical part which is the Ignition timing map and curve. Where it is of the utmost importance that you have a strong spark and the spark happens at just the right time.
You must have some good Karma to find such a clean bike. It is a well known fact that the results a person gets with the RDD CDI is directly related to the condition of the engine. i.e. if your engine is in good condition the results are extra ordinary. I think you did a very smart thing getting the CDI because what most people do not realize is that forcing the bike to run a bad points ignition would have destroyed the engine. By installing the CDI you have just saved your engine. And doubled what life it had.
I also trust that having experienced our product first hand. And joining a long list of happy and satisfied customers. You will gain a better insight into the minds of those who spend their time attacking RDD and the CDI. You will sit back and wonder about the character and morals of such a person who can spend their time attacking a good product.
The really funny part is most of them are not even RDD customers.
But like an old person once told me. Not all the Evil in the world can put a good person or product down.
Enjoy your bike and ride safe.
The CDI came about as a direct result off the passion I have for two strokes and the Yamaha Twins in particular.
When your on a RD350. you own the road.

Re: hats off to rdd!!
Yes i guess i'm real lucky to find a clean bike because for 7 long years i've been hunting and craving for an rd in good condition and under my budget and later i lost all my hopes after the prices went up and rather than hunting for 1 i waited patiently for one to come my way...
And by getting an rdd cdi i believe i've joined a big family of rd nut heads. I hate to think that i'm a customer who just bought an ignition system, because i've read all your posts and i know how much of hard work you gave in for bringing out an amazing product and its my privelage to thank you for this...keep up the good work bro...i'm in love with rdd now:)...people who have experienced it will always appreciate your work, ron...and some people doesn't appreciate it because they are meant to be losers all their lives and who gives a damn about losers...i've read stories of people working so hard to put such a product down, shame on them and they are not worthy to experience it and its a big shame on them if they have yamaha twins with them...next in my wish list is a rdd filter kit and rdd tuned flat slide carbs:)
the good will always emerge triumphant over evil and you have all my support....and now i heard from one of my friend that my mechanic is advicing most of his rd customers for rdd cdi:)
Re: hats off to rdd!!
You should have seen bennys face after the first ride there was a mile wide grin plastered across it ....the difference was evident even while idling

Nice story, Benny. Your persistence and good karma has paid off. Persistent guys like you who hang onto a dream always have way more fun and enjoy it that much more when it comes true.
Now remember all you gotta do is keep riding the bike and enjoying yourself.
Nice to hear about one more RD on the streets of Kerala. Post some pics.

The best part is the more you ride your bike with the RDD CDI. The very sound of the engine will get addictive.
You will hear your engine screaming in your dreams also.
Ive spent thousands of man hours on that curve and the code. That controls it. Listen to your engine. She will talk to you.
Thats what a perfectly timed two stroke sounds like. It is the sweetest sound in the world. It stirs the soul. And uplifts the spirit.

What ron said is absolutely true to the last word....i love everything about my bike the musical note from the engine, the deep induction growl and the beat coming outta the pipes..its nothing short of awesome...i still can't stop smiling when i think about her...four wheels move the body and two wheels move the soul and yamaha twin steals your heart...its good to know that there are people from the rdd family in kerala too...i'm from kollam and we can start of the rdd kerala chapter i hope all mallu members will take it enthusiastically...only true hardcore fans of the yamaha twins and singles, i'm sure there won't be any posers else we wouldn't be members of this forum:)

Benny– you made the very best investment in your RD that you possibly could! I know exactly how you felt after that first couple of test rides– it's like the bike getting reinvigorated with better combustion and the dynamic timing, making her roar in a way that turns heads everywhere you go. The cooler running, improved power and mileage are the icing on the cake, and the CDI will pay for itself within a year or two of enthusiastic riding.
Being a half-Mallu (my Mom's from Manimala, Kottayam) I'm also glad to hear that more of you 2 stroke bikers out there are enjoying the RDD RD CDI!
