RDD CDI on Rx 135 - happy customer

Post by rudrahatti »

Hi All,
I took a used yamaha RX 135 4 speed 2002 model in Aug..Bike was in OK condition.I must say engine was in good condition and the accletor, clutch and gear shift was hard as the previous owner was not using this bike much. He was owning another bike R15.This bike was showing 34500km on the odo. I think that must be geniune reading as the front tyre was stock one and rear tyre was changed.
Then driven the bike for 300kms and then took it to a famous mechanic (in vijaynagar )as the gear shift was harder and gear used to slip a lot.
Mechanic told me that there is no pull in the bike and there is no pick up. we need to rework on the engine. He told me that it will cost around Rs 5500 for the engine work.
I was stunned and thought that i made a mistake in buying that bike since i paid good amount when buying this bike.
Then after that i showed to all the mechancs in vijaynagar. They all said only clutch plates have gone.other than this everything is fine in this bike and then got the clutch plates replaced.
Then after driving the bike for around 1000kms,it was giving around 30km/ltr with 2t oil in oil tank. From here i started searching how to increase the milage on this bike in internet as i use daily for my office travel(my running per month will be around 1300kms).Then i got RDDreams website. Then started reading about the information posted here.
I gave it to other mechanic near my home for a general service hoping for increase in milage.he changed all the grips, cables, break shoes.Bike was real smooth and i must thank him.He took very legal amount close to Rs 2000 and bike was real smooth and then the bike started giving 33km/ltr.
Then i decided to put RDD cdi after reading lot of review. Then had a chat with shivo (very nice and cool person having good knowledge) in phone.Met him twice and both the time he was not having CDI with him.He tested my bike and he said bike is really good and it will run for anotehr 30000km without any problem.i am hoping that it will run more
Then one final day he had CDI with him and he called me, He did all the installation and timing advance.
Thanks shivo and askar(garage where i meet shivo)
First when i sat on the bike after the installation, power went up and was happy about my investment. but was getting late to home. so couldnot test it throughly.
Next day, i went for my marriage leave and after returning to bangalore, took the bike for a long drive.
From bangalore to yedeyur around 90kms(one way) distance.Bike gave me a decent milage of 45km/ltr and speed was always above 80km/hr speed.
This bike has improved tremondsly after the RDD CDI install and engine is very smooth now.Initial power has increased to a considerable amount and i can do easily in 3rd gear till 70km/hr now and very quickly it reaches this speed.
1 gear = upto 25-30km/hr
2 gear = upto 30-45-50km/hr
3 gear = upto 50-65-70 km/hr.
top speed is 110km/hr
I am getting a milage of around 37 km/ltr in city driving in power band and the engine heat is very normal even after long drives.
RDD CDI has made a tremondus change in the bike. Thanks to Ron for his wonderful product and thanks again to Shivo and Askar(he owns a garage where shivo installed CDI).
I am one more happy customer of RDD and proud that my bike is running with RDD CDI.
Forgot to mention that me and brother always like to use this Yamaha RX though we have other two bikes - Yamaha R15 and Hero honda splendor
Driving two stroke is fun and with RDD CDI installed is still more fun.

Pics of all my bikes attached (karizma ZMR is my brother's friend bike )

Njoy riding your RX.Take good care of here & she will never ever let u down. =D>
My suggestion to you would be to switch over to Motul 5100 (15w 50) for the gear box & Motul 800 2T premix as a piston oil at around 25/27 ml to a liter of petrol.

Thanks for the Kind words.

Now you understand why I call the people who make fun of the RDD CDI (Without even trying it) cutlets.

You have just increased the life of your engine by a huge margin.

Yes with the advantage of the RDD Digital CDI. The two stroke trumps the four stroke in smiles per mile.
My idea was to prove two strokes are the best engines.

And more and more people are switching back to the RXG.

I can put in a RX100 coupler. As the stroke is the same the map is the same between the 135 and the 100
But I think a RX100 owner would be better off spending his money on something more value for money like converting it to a 135cc.
Then get the CDI
Also RX100 bikes give twice as many problems and blow ups because there is the whole 6-12 volt conversion and who did it.
Plus the issue off a wiring harness which is over 25 years old.

Trust me we had one RX100 customer from Hydrabad blow up 5 units. Finally he had to bring the bike to bangalore and I had to install the CDI.
So I am not keen to sell RX100 cdi's.
Even the 135 CDIs are now only going to select dealers. Because they have proved they can do a proper install.

I have a 92 RX100 I think it has had 12v electricals since it rolled off the production line. Going to rebuild it in a months time (depending on the availability of the god damned engine bearings) and yes I am putting in a new wiring harness, new ht coil, new battery, new plug caps. I would definitely get the CDI if you can make it work for the RX100. But then again as you say only a "selected clique" of garages will be getting the CDI and damn sure as hell there won't be any such garages up here :(

I am willing to make the coupler test it in front of whom ever you like but once sold I do not want to hear about install problem, blown units or anything after that.

Will I realize same results as a digital CDI install does for the RX 135 in my RX 100? Like over rev, increased performance etc etc? Because I just read one of your posts saying that the benefits realized in an RX 100 are very small and conclusively not worth the investment. Is that the reason why you recommend RX 100 owners to go 135 cc?

Currently i am using motul 510 around 30ml/ltr as premix piston oil and motul 3100(20W 40) as gear oil. Bike is quite smooth now.

I am using motul 300v (15w 50) on my yamaha R15 currently and this also makes a lot of difference to the engine.

I will try your options next time on my Rx.

@Ron

yes Ron, RDD CDI makes a lot of difference to this RX 135 and thats why we(me and my brother) prefer to take RX 135 instead of R15.

I shown it to one of my friend. he had RX135 close to 7 yrs with him(someone stolen his bike from bangalore) and you know we had a long long discussion on this CDI.
He was saying he would have surely taken this kit if he had his Rx.

This CDI has done considerable difference to my bike and it is worth the money. Thank you Ron.
