Dear All,
I joined RDD yesterday. Thought I'll give a brief introduction of myself.
Am Bhanutej, a journalist, based in Bangalore. I am a traveler first and my preferred mode of transport -- when I can choose it -- is a motorcycle. I am 40 years old. So, I give in to the car now and then, but every time I ride a bike I rediscover that feeling which only a reunion can bring.
My first bike in the 1980s was my father's 1971 Jawa (though I had been riding it on the sly much before that). The first motorcycle I bought with my money -- in 1994, when I started working in a newspaper -- was a Yezdi Roadking. I still have that bike. In 2005, I bought a new Karizma, which proved to be a good travel companion for those many long, lonely journeys I have done to the hills in and around Karnataka.
I always wanted to own an RD, but some how I never got around to buying it. First was the "put off" factor that RD sellers put on. Even though you are paying through your nose, they make you feel they are doing you a favour by selling the bike. Also, friends and acquaintances warned me that I won't have the time (given my job) to maintain the RD.
The last few months, I have been visiting Joe. He showed me a few which I didn't like. Last week, I finally seemed to like a 1984 model (needless to say that it's HT). I now have an RD.
Look forward to being a member on RDD.
Thanks and regards,
Bhanu.

@Vijay: couldn't have put it better man!
I hope those visits to that guy didn't cost you too much! Nevertheless, welcome to RDD, have a great time learning and riding!

Welcome and start knowing your bike now or say exploring it.
As per RDD a good RD should be unsleeved barrels, standard pin crank, they are the first bench marks and the list goes on.

Thanks roshiba, vijay, sid, ajaybiz.
@vijay: I'm sure you have good reasons for saying that, but I am completely out of sync here. Yet to understand the dynamics of the RD world.
I'm on RDD for its expertise on the subject. All of you know more about the RD and about its many experts than I can ever know. Yet, I am a good learner and a listener (In my profession, you have to be). thanks.

Hi Bhanu
The emphasis on RDD is to learn about the bike so that we don't get taken for a ride by all the so called "tuners" out there. Also as a policy we do not discuss garages and mechanics out here. If you have a question please do post up and folks will do their best to answer you. Hope you enjoy your stay here.
Cheers
Vijay

Thanks Vijay and Chris for a warm welcome.
I have a little more than a junk of a bike now. It's clutch is fine only when I start the bike in the morning. Once the engine heats up (within 5 - 10 mts of starting it), it's as good as a clutchless bike. You should see me struggling through traffic (but thanks to RD, it is such a well balanced bike with the best riding posture I have known; it's also remarkably docile in crawling traffic !!!). I think I need a new clutch assembly (HELP!)
Since the rings are new, I've been asked to run-in the bike for a while (which I am diligently doing). The noises in the engine grow as I ride it for a prolonged period of 30 mts - 45 mts (say 10 - 12 km in bad traffic).
I am not so worried about the appearance of the bike right now (am waiting for a freshly- chromed rear mud-guard while I still am waiting for a front mudguard -- right now, it is running on a Rajdoot 175 mudguard in the front). All that apart, I want the clutch and the engine to work like an RD, to start with.
I saw Chinoy's post on WHAT YOU COULD DO WITH YOUR RD. The memories of riding an RD in the past come back to me. All I can do is frown and wonder if I made a mistake with this bike.
After reading Chinoy's post, I'm serious about rebuilding my engine from the crank stage. I require serious help in this regard once I am better off on the money front.
Request all of you to ressurrect the RD in my bike.
Bhanu.
