rdd ignition on the shogun

Post by madmaxarjun »

hi
i know this has really got delayed since i was the first one , working on the rd kept me away for quite some time...here it goes.

i had been working on the shogun for a long long time now its close to 12yrs now .the idea was to make it a street-fighter which moves too.
so i followed my usual program of sorting out the aesthetic first, it was at the same time i was getting good with the chamber design.the problem was that this engine had a factory ex duration of over 195 degrees and yet the engine would make its peak power at 8500 rpm, so it was evident that there was something wrong .. this engine should actually have its peak over 9500rpms. so i made a couple of chambers for peak at 9000 & 10,000 rpm ...while the 1st pipe worked flawless, the other one just flopped, this really brought my focus to the ignition the other thing was that even with a chamber the bike failed to accept bigger jets .

the stock ignition system does not has a pulsar coil, it uses the source to detect the crank position, this is really ridiculous as the source coil is around an inch & half, so the pole reversal could happen anywhere within this length causing the timing to be really erratic, say -+ 15 degrees, apart from this it has really low spark strength.

so i mounted a pulsar coil and put in the rdd black box..the engine fired up on the first attempt, i timed here at 24 degree..and took her for a spin.. the engine felt very aggressive in the mids which was non existent in the past.. she revved quickly to the band and wow the peak out was just mindblowing .. infact i had another 1000rpms overev.i had always wanted her to run this way ,,since this would justify my wild mods on the bike...

the next day i plugged in other chamber (10,000RPM ) which had flopped in the past. put in the biggest main jet. selected the curve two option..WOW the chamber worked.on this run i had a karizma to give me company . i left it for dead..this one day i can never forget she ran like a dream . it was my dream to see her take out big bikes and do justice to her existace the RDD CDI MADE MY DREAM COME TRUE.

Its been over two years with ignition & things just great , she fires up after couple of months on the second kick with a dead battery.
It is the RDD ignition that has powered me to dream to make her a chamber for 12000rpms..

thanks Ron.

sounds good bro.
In fact the RDD CDi can be used on any two stroke and it will take the engine to another level.
All you need to do is hook up the pulsar coil.
