My bike got RDD'ed

Post by mithunmiranda »

A biiigg thank you to Ron for making this wonderful CDI, awesome is the word I'd like to say. :D The bottom end has really come alive and the engine is definitely rev happy. The interesting part is engine doesn't heat up much even after ripping. Thank you so much, Ron u are a genius.

Sat down today morning to install the cdi onto the RX. removed coil plate, advanced the timing, put in the Activa plug cap and new W5RBC plug, did everything by the book as Ron had mentioned,.

Connected everything up and kick started the bike, no spark. Checked everything again. Source 327 ohm, pulsar 80 ohm. CDI is taking in current when ignition key is on but no spark at the plug.
Reconnected the stock CDI and there was spark, tried everything twice.. thrice.

Now I was like oh shit. I don't want to trouble Ron that I have a problem here. it shouldn't be happening, I was getting frustrated at this point. There was nothing that could really go wrong. Finally removed all connections, crimped the harness female connectors a bit snugly and connected back. Lo and behold, started on the first kick. Very happy with myself, went for a spin, felt really good. The difference is in the way the bike picks up speed. Pulls much better than stock and I have not yet done anything to the jetting. I would suggest to all the prospective buyers, just go for it,this is the single best thing you could do for your bike.

At the end of the day I am all tired, but happy that something very good has happened, thanks again :)

Thought i would post up my emission readings, the comparison is between my pulsar 150dtsi and my rx135 5 speed. both running stock jettings.(the RX uses 4 speed carb with 165/17.5 jets).

the pulsar is 4.5 years and the RX is 10 years old.wanted to put this up a lot earlier but was held up with office work. trust me on this, i was mighty impressed by what i saw.

just incase you guys wanted to know, the RX's the previous reading with the stock cdi was 1.92% CO, i forgot the HC reading though.
so the thing now is, my RX pollutes less than half that of a comparable 4 stroke.

Your in a very small minority.
Most people just give off hot air when it comes to doing something to save the environment.
They think its cool to join a save the tiger face book forum.
There used to be a time when 2 stroke owners where given long lectures on X-Bhp and other crappy sites.

There are very few people who really give a shit which is sad. Guess any two stroke owner running his bike and polluting without the RDD CDI should hang their heads in shame.

And the best part you actually make more power and get better mileage.

thats so true Ron, i can actually feel the fuel being burnt more efficiently. and no this is not that placebo effect of power which many people claim to get by putting on iridium plugs or other such things , the cdi does burn whatever it gets with as much efficiency, the result is there for all to see.

the most apparent effect is the increase in torque throughout the rev range, it just pulls. even at the rpms it used to lack grunt earlier with stock setup, i have not tested top speed yet but i am very happy with the way it pulls on the inclines.

there is an incline on the way from my office towards my house, i can out accelerate most vehicles comfortably on the way up.hitting 90's on a long enough straight incline is a piece of cake, and i am running stock 4 sp carburetion on a ratty stock 5sp bore, nothing fancy except running on motul+jetx premix.
the torque is good on the lows, but oodles of it comes as the rpms climb.

just superb. gives me a strong reason not to ride my four stroke as much as possible

Wow dude you are getting really low emission figures! I'm really very surprised! My readings are way above yours, even with the rdd cdi. Check out my figures here http://www.rddreams.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22183

How come my emission figures are much more than his :?: . I've got a bone stock RX135 4 speed model.

well aditya mine is a stock 5 speed, and no my jets aint blocked and i'm not running too lean either  (needle at middle position, airscrew at one turn out)bike doesnt feel choked or stressed.i am using 25ml motul+jetx cocktail to the litre.engine isnt too hot.well it gets a bit hot when i putter around but nothing too alarming.

i dont know how exactly but it does feel great now, there's not much smoke either(only during starts not much after that) much lesser than before. i dont know how but key is probably finding just that sweet spot,i think other members will be able to clarify better.

Mit, is the station code number 150? Cause their machine gives wrong readings! :p
But seriously, that is some really low figure.. my bike has come down to 1.99 CO and 965ppms HC but still not as good as yours!!

james whats your say on the 1.92% CO that i got earlier from the very same station? well the machine cant go that wrong too.. can it  ,in that case they would be in for trouble.

the earlier readings were 1.92% CO and 396ppm of HC. the HC has reduced by more than half but CO reduction is quite impressive.but the readings posted by aditya are on the higher side i feel. especially for HC.my cousins 5 speed with everything bone stock doesnt read that high. his readings are 1.4 % CO.and this is from that very same station.

I took my zma for testing there 2 months ago and then headed to a friends place 200mtrs away just to realize that the puc cert has fallen off. I went back to get another test done and the readings varied by a big margin.. There is a chance the machine isnt calibraed well or something.. :-k

same CDI Installed on RXG 4 speed on one bike it power wheelies on the other the improvement is not so drastic.
So I get asked this question a lot.

My response is the results are based on Overall Health of the engine. If the engine is healthy to start with. It see the most gains from the CDI upgrade.
If the engine is shaged the gains are still there just not as much.
Its got more to do with condition of engine than jets or anything else.

Most of these PUC checking machines are in a sad state i.e. their readings are not accurate.
What I found was that if you where to do the tests with a lab grade PUC machine the improvements are more than what you see with these road side PUC machines.
Because the road side machines will always give you traces from the previous engines tested.
Where as with a lab grade machine the results are accurate.
If you can get a new PUC machine or Lab grade setup to test your bike you will find the emission drop is even more than what you thought.
