Finally the go to match the show.
Finally the go to match the show.
Have been waiting for this day for a long time. The bike got the RDD CDI install yesterday thanks to some fantastic work by Prd ably supported by our resident guru Muks . Just when you thought that you had seen it all when it comes to Jugaad, here is a new one - the throttle cable is too short to let the slides open fully. Anyhow thanks to Prd,s brilliance, bike is moving and how. The benefits of the CDI is immediately apparent - revs better, runs cooler, the lights are super bright and the bike is way faster that what it was.
Bike still needs work and plans are to do a strip and inspect before we go any further.
Thanks to Prd for all the work on the bike, Muks for the brilliant hosting services, Thing for moral support from the couch , Crazy D for his remote diagnosing abilities and last of all but certainly no way the least Ron Chinoy for his brilliant product and for his equally brilliant community without which I would just be another middle aged man nursing shattered dreams of a bygone youth.

Re: Finally the go to match the show.
Yeah it was one helluva sunday. Thanks to Ron as usual, rx rebore to 0.25 got done on late saturday with secret clearences. Thing got the rebore done and calls at 9 at night on saturday saying he will check with Ron if the chamferring can be done. At that point, it was like well here goes another week waiting for the bike to happen and then miracle of miracles, all the work is done by Ron late at night and the barrel is ready for install on sunday morning. Hats off for just this. More later

Re: Finally the go to match the show.
Very depressing post.
I wish you had mentioned all the problems you encountered in getting the bike serviced with the RDD CDI
How
1. The top so called 2 stroke tuners refused to touch your bike if it was running the RDD CDI.
2. How the product actually works and is better than what was installed on your bike. Even though the CDI you installed is an old Digital 2 box.
How so called lovers and experts of 2 strtokes in India are trying their best to kill a good product.
If it wasnt for my American customers. This product and this forum would be dead.
ANd killed by who ?
So called Experts and lovers of 2 strokes in India.
The good news
1. Just as you cant keep a good man down. You cant keep a good product down.
2. People who have made fun of the CDI, ridiculed it and said it was a crap product. Are not going to have a place to hide their faces or shame when the truth comes out. They are going to be exposed for the cunts they are.

I realized that it is futile to talk to hard boiled so called experts about RDD CDIs. When I mentioned about your CDI , the guy would say, I have a much better and cheaper CDI. Now I chose to remain silent, If some expert comments on how quick my RD moves, I say it is a fiero CDI. No use educating fools.Saves my time.

Re: Finally the go to match the show.
OK - sorry about my earlier post which was too short - here is my story in full.
My bike when I picked it up was not running. The previous owner had spent enormous effort, time and money to assemble all the goodies for the bike but it all had to be put together for it to run. I therefore took it to a well known garage with one intention only - that was for him to assemble the bike and get it to run - like all well laid plans the first hitch came during the discussion of the build - the RDD CDI was among the goodies that the previous owner had picked up and I was keen for it to go onto the bike from Day 1 - this the mech refused to do - according to him it would not hold timing and would not contribute to the bike running well (this is an important point and I will come back to it later) well then with a box full of parts and a wife screaming bloody murder (she was the bike sponsor ), I had no choice but to go along with what he would or could do. The bike came out nicely put together and it ran - took it easy for the first 500 Kms and then went back to him to sort out all the niggles - I was quite clear that the RDD CDI would go on once I had the bike running and all the cycle parts sorted.
Well anyway the bike came back after some 3 months (including a paint job and some parts replacement) and then started the job of getting the RDD CDI on. In the meantime I was running the bike but it wasn’t moving like a RD - running out of breath at around 5K (though it did lug Ron and me for a very small trip in Cooke town), taking forever to overtake other bikes incl the 4 Js and generally running like crap (I have been spoilt since my point of reference has always been Crazy D's RD). So then after some serious conference calls and whining and crying on my part, it was decided that the den would be the venue and Sunday would be the day of transplant.
Pradeep was there and drove me around town while we went and picked up all the bits and parts. Due to some internal issues (as they say in Corporate speak) Pradeep very kindly agreed to put the CDI on the bike. We took off the seat and the tank and then discovered that the electricals were much like a rat’s nest – all over the place and as many taped joints as you could think off. The battery was new even though the original battery box was half eaten by acid and had been “strengthened” by a cardboard box to serve as a holder. Pradeep tested for continuity and all circuits seemed to be fine. We saw the “modern” CDI which was basically two TVS integrated units, so they cam off in quick time and on went the Karizma HT coils. Pradeep neatly tucked the RR unit away and then the RDD CDI went into the tool kit holder nicely wrapped in foam generously donated by Muks from an old bike seat. So there we were almost all done when old uncle Murphy decided to play a hand. I had a quick throttle on the bike which I had decided to replace with a stock throttle (makes riding in traffic easier). So off we went and fixed up the new throttle and much to our horror found that the slides would not open more than a third. So off went the new cable and on went the old – a little better now with the slides opening about 2/3rd of the way.
After some head scratching and debate we then decided to get the bike running and started putting everything back together. At around 1030 pm with some Activa caps kindly donated by Muks, kicked the bike over and sweet she came to life. So then a little tweaking here and there and then took her for a spin. Please note here that the slides are opening only 2/3rds, the carbs are not yet balanced optimally, jetting is still not dialed in and the electrics are well not the greatest. IT DID NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The CDI is magical for the way it compensates for all the shitty components it is paired with. The bike flew – the engine sound itself changes, it now is angry, it growls and dares you to ride it harder and harder. The light is super bright.
Ron tells me this is some old version. Man, all I can say is, I don’t care if this was made in the stone ages – this CDI rawks. Anybody with a 2 stroke and a quarter of a brain better have this on their bike. I n fact, I would go so far as to say, build your bike around the CDI.
All the jokers and clowns who run this product down, well as I said before, you do not even have half a brain. If a mechanically inept guy like me can figure this out, you guys do not have any excuse.

This has been coming for more than a year now....
I have known this bike for a very long time, even before all the goodies went on. The parts that have gone into this and the amount of work done by Ron are insane. But somehow along the way shit happened and the bike never got to realize its full potential. That's why I jumped at the chance to help make this machine run at even a part of what, I knew, it is really capable of.
Vijay, you have a machine with some of the best parts money can afford and work done by one of the best tuners I have known. She has only really opened her eyes out of slumber when the CDI went on. When we undo the Jugaad, time her, jet her and give her a proper once over, the tigers'll really break free then.
I'm just really glad that I get to help bring back to glory one of Ron's lesser-known but highly capable build. Vijay, honestly, thanks for the opportunity!

Re: Finally the go to match the show.
The fact is that ever since my Rx got stolen way back in 2002 and the cops found it in 2003, I have never been satisfied with the way she has been running. Many rebores and paint jobs and many other garage visits later, I finally got new 5 speed barrel gear box etc. and this I had posted about. It ran much better than before but I never was satisfied with the way it ran. Some extra whirr sounds from the gearbox etc kept me wanting for more. Besides with the RDD head too the bike felt better than before but something felt wrong. One of the rides, I had a partial seizure too and that just kept the niggling worm in my head growing. So a few weeks back, thing helped me get a new wurginal 5 speed gearbox. It had been on my mind to get the install done. Couple of weeks back again with Things' help the bike was stripped down. Then he tells me the barrel is glazed. The stuff came to Ron's place and he agreed to help out with it. Mohit and Thing wanted me to go for an all out build with max power etc. I somehow wanted the bike to just run right and close to good stock as if brand new. Basically more life. I HATE to have the engine opened atleast for some 20000 km. So my request to Ron was to just have it blue printed and sort out the wrongs in the barrel.
This time around, wanted to get the GB fixed along with the rebore. Here again thing helped a lot. Original bearings for the crank and GB came along with new reed and many other small things. A big THANK YOU to thing for roaming around and getting all the OE spares. Come saturday evening and it is raining. Thing had got the rebore done as per Ron's instructions and I was hoping that I could put the bike together on Sunday. Night 9 pm I call him and he says he has stopped cause of the rain. Then he speaks to Ron and man o man, he decides to help this poor soul out by completing the chamferring the ports and last minute touches late at night. Finally thing landed up at my place close to midnight with everything set for the morning. This is the first time anything on my bike got done so late at night.
The mech who would fit all this too came home early and looked at all the stuff and was happy to find a customer who had got almost everything from packing kits to bearings and barrel to nuts and bolts all ready for him to start. This is when I realised that I have missed out on the clutch bell and plates. He was glad he had something to do in terms of parts stuff. Took all the bearings and got them neatly pressed into place at a lathe. For now I'm running the "old" clutch plates (6000 km old) along with a "reset" bell.
My RX got done first and poor Vijay was waiting from the morning 830 am. By the time my rx was done it was already close to 530 - 6 PM. We were hoping that the mech would complete the Rx and start on the RD for the CDI install. It was only then that we were in for a shock. He said he needs to go to his sister's place for a ceremony. He took his Rs. 1000 for services and left Vijay feeling really sad about his bike.
That's when Prd swung into action, and the rest is now history. Only loss this sunday was a can with 4 litres of gas left for public consumption on the road by Prd when we went to get long bolts to install HT coils on Vijay's RD .
Thanks again to the RDD community headed by Ron for me to get so far. The bike is running fine. Probably much better than what it was before it was stolen. Running in has started and by the time that is done, I hope to get new tyres, rims and shocks ready to plonk on and ride away into the sunset
Cheers

Re: Finally the go to match the show.
update on the bike - throttle cable issue sorted out by the master and balancing of carbs also done - now i finally know what a RD feels like - there is a distinct twitch from the rear wheel every time you enter the power band and Boy is that twitch addictive. Got the tank pressure washed and blow dried with compressed air. Need to head to SJP Road to pick up the Y splitter and get the RDD tap on. Last two things left to do is lift the barrels for inspection and get the new wiring harness on. I hope to goodness that the top end bearing jugaad is not been done in the bike , otherwise will have to go shopping again in High Street! Also master has kindly agreed to apprentice me on one more RD that is coming in for treatment - woo hoo. Now to get old Muks some RDD taps and get him off my back

Vijay, your bike is really good looking! I like the tank a lot
I hope I didn't brain my damage...
Re: Finally the go to match the show.
After another couple of weekends of circus, rode Vijay's bike yesterday and man what a bike... getting parts for his RD, better fuel flow tap, better / moded throttle cable perfect flat-slide carbs all getting in to the bike have made her very very sweet with power in the HT band so smooth and scary at the same time. The front breaking is real good with those grand discs. Congratulations sar, your RD is faster than my RD.
Need to post about this last weekend on this thread as most of the folks in the story were there this weekend too. The Saturday started lazily as usual and thing had come over late friday evening with 2 new cdis and one 90-100 kit. One CDI was to go onto my RX (upgrade from present cdi) the other with the 90-100 kit (or parts of it) needed to go onto the shogun. I did the install on the RX (more like replace existing with new) in about 20-30 mins and went out for a ride came back smiling... then came pradeep and raghu and then came vijay and his friend veeresh with his rx. Pradeep and thing are hooked to wrenching the shogun cdi had come out, exhaust was improved by removing some blockages in the fake muffler. We all split up around 1 pM in the afternoon. Rags, thing and veeresh remained at my place, Pradeep and Vijay went to bring rags bike from koramangala in the gypsy, me had to run to the office to attend some meetings. Came back home around 7 pm I was in for a surprise. The whole home was buzzing with boys and bikes. Thing was doing an install of cdi on an rxz, also making some changes to veeresh's rx. Besides this there was the whole place filled with spares for rags' bike, tons of batteries had arrived for my gypsy, jeep, rxs, shogun, rd. Jammy came with his coimbatore friend in the jeep to pick up some part he had left at my place and amrit punja dropped in with his hurricane (willys-petrol) and these guys who are generally the center of conversation of jeeps, found that they were swampped with bike talk and sounds. They only had the idiot box and the beer to keep them company till they too started staring at the bikes and the circus going on. Prd and Thing were doing all sorts of stuff that I lost track of the number of things they fixed. The entire shogun, wiring getting matched to the rx cdi coils getting changed was almost done. The karizma coil got a place under the tank on a newly drilled hole. Veeresh's bike got done, RXZ install got done and Rags RD got a nice cover and a spot to rest by the tulasi kattay. After dinner, all the boys just crashed and thing patiently put all the scattered tools back to-gether and generally took care of the place. Spoke of going for a long ride early in the morning and we all woke up by around 10 . Lazy sunday morning, the shogun wiring got completed in next to no time and man is she now flying. Smoothest shogun, I've ever ridden in all my life. The CDI with the new coils have worked wonders on it. The bike still needs chassis straightening, swing arm replacement, shocks replacement, front fork mods too. The curve 1, curve 2 switch failed to work and me already got similar switches for install on both the rx135s. So lots got done over the weekend. My willys jeep roared back to life with the new battery and all looking good on that front. All she now needs is a nice new top and a new set of seats.
On the whole it was a great wrenching weekend made to happen by Prd with Thing you are the men who are the best wrenchers that i have seen in all my life mates... keep it going

As a newbie, I was lost between these 'Crank' heads, Pradeep & Vijay patiently explained stuff and it all started making sence. I was thrilled out of my skull to see Vijay's bike roar back to life after she was pimped! Hope to get life aka CDI into my Rx soon...
