Analog CDI kit

Post by thruxtontexas »

I purchased an Analog kit from Economy Cycles in the latter part of 2009 for my 1976 RD-400, and I've just finished installing the wiring harness. The brass plate will be installed on the engine when it's re-built later this summer; I'd decided to finish a complete rolling chassis before overhauling the engine. Well, I'm happy to say that the installation went smoothly, thanks to a good wiring diagram and tech support. The D/C powered Tail/Brake lights (LED's require D/C), turn signals, horn, and inst. lights worked perfectly the first time I switched on the key. It's odd how the jobs that seem the toughest end up being the easiest; and the jobs that look easy end up being the toughest (like getting a decent paint job from a rattle-can  ). Thanks to Ron C. and John R. ..............................James.

If you're happy enough to post up, after just the wiring. I can't wait to see what you'll do when you actually get 'er running. :D
Better yet, I'd like to see what you do when you get the digital.

All the best with the build!

Thanks for the good wishes. The ignition portion should be a piece of cake. There are only six wires (four to the coils) and one plug; I'd be hard pressed to screw it up. (Hey!! How come that little black box is smokin' ?? ) The timing should be equally easy. The wiring harness involved a lot more circuits and seemed to be the most labor intensive. I look forward to having the engine up and running with the new system. I have another bike to ride so I can afford to take my time and enjoy the re-build for educational purposes.

I'll probably be happy with just the Analog for now; there's always the option to upgrade later. Yes, I know that the Digital system has more refinements; but IMHO, the Analog system is being sold short. Just think of the improvements over the antiquated system it replaces. It requires no battery for ignition or to energize the coils in the stock rotor, and I understand that the wasted spark makes starting easier (maybe?) .............................James.

Yes your right James. Wasted spark does make starting easy.
And yes the analogue CDI does give you a pretty mean spark its at least 3 times stronger than the Earlier CDI it replaced. WHich was off a Scooty Pep.

The magic of the digital is simplly the fact that it changes the timing based on RPM.
So you have a stronger Midrange and a very healthy over rev.
Plus it prolongs engine life, increases mileage and drops emmisions and increase power in the low mid and over rev.

Since you are located in India, the best man to answer your question would be Ron Chinoy the designer and manufacturer.
In the U.S. try Economy Cycles, the sole U.S. distributor; it was available the last time I looked. The kits for the U.S. market come with a wiring harness and a lot of extras. So far I'm happy with mine. .....................James.

I dont sell the Analogue Kit any more
It is possible that John of Economy Cycle does though.

The way I look at it.
The digital Kit is the only way to go.
I stoped selling the Analogue Kits in India because people tend to buy something if its cheaper and then miss the buss when it comes to seeing the true magic of this product.

The digital Kit is better because

a. The timing of the spark event is 100 times more accurate.
b. The spark strength is twice that of the analogue with GP Tech features like wasted spark removal.
c. You have better low and mid and over rev which you cant expect with a static Analogue CDI
d. If you want you can turn on or off wasted spark.
e. I spent 6 months developing and testing the Analogue CDI. Ive spent 8 years refining and improving the Digital.

John is the only guy who may be sitting on stocks of the Analogue CDI.

Check the store front for info on how to order.

Right now I have no stocks and what limited stocks we have are going out to my USA dealer.
If your ok with waiting then place your order. If not try next month.

There is no waiting period because we have no plans or should I say funds to make another batch.
If my funds situation improves then just maybe. We will do a batch.
In the mean time. I am breaking my head with bigger problems like finding the CDIs to fill Johns Orders.
And one unit for each of the engine / bikes which are with RDD for rebuild. There are some 6 Engines with RDD which Need units.

This should not effect US sales as Economy Cycle is sitting on stocks.
