My RD report card - 3.5 years post dungeon treatment

Post by Kaushik »

Its been 3.5 years since my RD came out of the dungeon and I owe Ron a report card. So here goes :)

Opened up the top end over the past weekend to change the gaskets and the top end bearings.
Both barrels perfect - no seizure marks, no discolouration of the barrel walls, ports perfect like they were when I picked up the bike from you 3 years ago! One of them even had the cross hone marks visible still at some places - well, I am not the guy who rides the bike hard and probably that explains the existance of the hone marks still :-)
Both Conrods seem to be OK. Almost no axial and vertical play in the RHS rod; a small axial play [of about 0.2-0.3mm] and no vertical play in the LHS rod.
Both Heads perfect, both piston crowns perfect.
Feels excellent as before - good low end grunt, revs cleanly, idles superbly.
Well, basically no performance issues with the bike at all :-))

There were a couple small scares - discussed with Ron and it turns out they are old, just that I saw them only now. So, thats sorted :)

I love the way my bike runs - am very happy with it. Although I dont consider myself a big wrencher, I do the small bits. I have a trusted mechanic and even then I dont leave the bike with him. Am always there to get the work done.

Ron, thanks a ton mate!!! I owe my bike's performance and condition to you and RDD.

Thanks baba.
Next time you take her out push her a little harder make a mental note that your trying to run in those last few hone marks. Thought to tell you the truth Ive seen bikes with 40,000 Kms with still some hone marks these are typically on the non thrust surfaces and is normal.

Keep a log of compression readings this is the best way to know hen you need to change your rings.

Other than that just enjoy the bike.
I remember your bike it came here for a CDI install and we landed up doing a full Liner Job on it. Because on the crappy liner she had.

Dont think we did the bottom end. But if its holding up you dont need to worry.

Feed her a little motul (at least 5ml to the ltr and she should be good for a long time to come).

3.5 Years wow how time flies when your having a good time.

You are right, we didnt do the bottom end. But well, it seems to be holding up for now. Will keep a check on it anyways.
Of course, I use the old tried and tested method. JettX in the oil tank / pump and 10 ml/ltr of Motul as pre-mix. Maybe thats one of the reasons the bottom bearings are still holding up

Inspect your top end cages for wear.
That is the weakest link when we do an engine and dont touch the crank.
