Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
I had heard great things about this filter and the people from whom i had heard were so trustable that i just blindly went in for this filter without any double thoughts.
Foam filters are always better than paper ones in my opinion.they will obviously filter better.and as this is an expensive car with a huge rebuild cost i don't want to risk the engine at all.
What i thought was maybe this filter might flow a bit less but it'll give me better results that the stock system atleast.
But man! does this filter flow.I reset the ECU according to what teji has told me and the first time i floored the throttle the whoosh from the filter was enough to let me know that THIS is the real deal in filters.i have seen k&n and green filters on honda civic's but non has the sound of flow which this one has.
and then was the time for a test drive.i was floored.not only did the engine rev freely but the torque down low has improved a lot too.i'm floored by this filter.in extreme heat and the filter doesn't even have a shield and sucks in hot air but yet because of the huge volume of air sucked in the performance is great.
i'm still planning on the heat shield or maybe placing this filter behind the bumper as i have been told that this filter is very resistive to water and is pretty safe.
I'm also searching for a particular type of water resistant sock which is available abroad for filters.
But i know one thing.the day this filter gets cold air all hell will break loose.
Over all-I'm lovin it!!
thanks Ron and Teji.

Nice one, the sound outside when the car pulls in will also be nice. The enigine will take on a very sporty note.

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
Oh yes ...people were actually looking for an exhaust system when i took the car to the honda service.
they were like-
"saab intake mein se exhaust ki aawaz kaise aayegi".lol
meaning- How can exhaust sound come from an intake.
i just love to floor the car every time i take it out.its got a very roary sound.so loud that even my fiance knows when i pass her house.lol.

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
Nice glad you you like it.
Too bad you cant bring the car over. Else I would have done a proper setup and install for you.
We haven't even tapped half of what that filter can do. Trust me.
If anybody has this car in Bangalore I need 5 minutes with it to look under the hood.
The guy across the street has one. I need to catch him and ask his permison.
If I can get my hands on a car here I will do pipe which will boost your power even more.

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
wow...really..thanks.i'd really appreciate it.
well i'm really happy with the car with the way it behaves now.and more power will only make it better.
also do you have any ideas for a heat shield for the filter or should i just install it down low behind the fog light on the bumper?will it resist the water well enough or will i have problems with the filter getting too dirty.
because i don't think the engine will be able to pull water up the intake tract.it cannot have that much sucking power can it?

You will be surprised. That said, i suppose as long as the filter will not be fully submerged you should be ok. Just dont expect to wade through stagnant water.navpreet318 wrote:because i don't think the engine will be able to pull water up the intake tract.it cannot have that much sucking power can it?

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
Have you attached a pod? If yes, have you attached it to the end of the intake tract or have you gotten rid of the entire intake tract?

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
i have gotten rid of the entire tract and have installed a readily available bolt on adaptor specifically made for the civic.
yes its a pod filter.
ofcourse won't be wading through water.as it is the monsoon is heavy here but there is no stagnant water.

I am probably missing something here, but was there no way to bolt the pod onto the end of the tract?

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
nope.the end of the intake tract is housed at a very tight spot.and its in the engine bay itself.
Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
Do not add any kind of cover.
It already has a cover which is water resistant.
DO not worry about water unless you plan to submerge the filter.

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
thats it then.i'm plonking it at the bottom just behind the bumper.
Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
Use your common sense man thats all I can say right now.
Inspect the filter to see if its geting sprayed with slush / dirt water.

Is this the "disconnect-battery-for-24-hours-thing"? It didn't work for me... are Maruti MPFIs different in this aspect?navpreet318 wrote:I reset the ECU according to what teji has told me

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
yup will do that.infact i'll put an ali plate in the bottom so that it doesn't get sloshed with dirty water from below and i'll install the pipe and filter facing upwards so that its in that zone but not completely in the face of water.
you can imagine that zone being like a big space behind the front bumper on the left side of the car.its a big void.and it's fed with cool air from the opening just beside the fog light.
lets see i'll engineer a way out.

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
No no.the reset is as follows.
1.disconnect the battery.
2.crank the car for a couple of times to remove residual charge from the capacitors if any.
3.reconnect the battery.
4.let the car idle for 5-10min.
5.floor the gas pedal and let the car hit the rev limiter and then release.
6.enjoy your car.
has worked for me.also worked on the swift.
you won't know the difference immideately but later as you're driving down the roads you have driven for numerous times you'll fell the difference in throttle response and acceleration.

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
One more point i'd like to discuss here.
If i place the filter behind the bumper i'll have 2 options.
1.use the stock air box and plumbing without the stock filter.
2.use the aftermarket adaptor pipe and get some plumbing.
will using the stock air box be of any benefit.like storing a big volume of air for a sudden acceleration etc.
the only reason i want to use it is it'll give the car a very stock under the hood look which i like.people will never know what its capable of.hehe.
so is it advisable to use the stock air box.

Re: Chinoy Filter on the honda civic
nope i'm also running a locally made bolt on end can.
i had asked to make it sound very muted and roary but the end result is that its booming in the cabin which i'm not liking at all.and another thing that i've been checking is that the performance is actually gone down due to this exhaust.i'm probably gonna put the old stock end can back on.i had installed this end can a couple of days back.
