RDD CDI for RD350 - Ultra Awesome Product

Post by ad1tya »

Installed the RDD CDI on my RD350 LT today. Had some issues with timing, got the timing light and made it right. The bike is rocking as of now. Perfectly timed at 2.4mm BTDC, running great. Starting in the first kick as never before. First I had a TCI Ignition that came with RD's sure that sux now as RDD pwns it. There is notable change in power. Checked the idling RPM by digi tacho taken from college its showing ~ 800rpm. I'm also using the waste spark option. The bike is running really great, thank you for such a great product Ron. My dad uses the bike more than I do, he was really happy yesterday after riding the bike.

My dad earlier had a RD in 1998, I was a kid dint know wat it was, but really loved the bike, he also tried making it CDI, but success dint come along so sold it just for 20k in 2000. He said yday "How come I dint know bout RDD?, I never would have sold the bike.

*sigh* no words left. lol

Here's a pic of my bike.

Run with wasted spark off, man. And if I were you, I'd set the warm-engine idle speed at atleast 1000 rpm.

Very nice bike you have there.

LOL you got to be kidding me .
If you where so sure the Delhi OE Kit was better why did you buy the RDD Kit.

Enjoy the bike as it is now.
And then start going richer and hold on for dear life.
Next mod get the Chinoy filters. Your bike is now being held back by the filter.

If you where so sure the Delhi OE Kit was better why did you put down so much money for a RDD kit ?
I think the guys who put the money down even if they are convinced what they have is better than the RDD kit. Are smarter. They are risk takers who are willing to take that chance.
I was sure with the oem kit coz I never used it. But, whn I & my dad used to commute on the bike it started giving problems like overheating, starting trouble (this was the worst, stand the bike somewhere for 2mins and it will refuse to start). Dad used to ride it to the office say daily 20kms to and fro atleast, in the night while returning home when the headlights were ON, they used to suck some batt. & the TCI wudnt get enough current and bike used to misfire. My dad used to say "WTF is the this kit, search somewhere and get a better one" I knew RDD was there. So, I said why not take a chance, let it be wrong, ill learn from it as I did with the TCI. But, I wasnt wrong this time not at all I say. This was the best I've seen so far and it is made for THE RD. I also asked you ron before taking this kit that time you dint showed any interest. But when I was frustrated with this one, I started hitting you PM's and emails then alas u gave me ur details. You even said to meet u personally in bang. I was coming for the IMTEX 2009, so I said why not, I was a lil afraid, when I was there I gave u a call. Then finally u were convinced man this guy really wants to experience the best. Then you showed some interest in selling me this kit. And I finally have the kit installed without much difficulty. Now, since the kit is installed my dad loves to ride the bike more than I do. have hardly ridden 5kms since then and takes away the bike before I awake. Thanks from him too. :)

BTW, I'm facing with a new problem
With the power boost by RDD Ignition, when I'm at 4k-5k RPM and I wanna upshift I release the throttle and "ting" sound comes from the cylinder. This doesnt come if I release the throttle slowly. I think this is coz of a bad sleeve job, isnt it? If it is for sleeve how much will RDD Charge for fixing it?

If possible can I have your cell number Ron? asked teji but he said to ask ya directly. I'm promise I wont bug ya every now and then :P

That is a common problem I faced with all the TCI Ignitions which depend on the Bat to run.
Because they are cheap one IC 10 Bucks chips. They do not have dwell control. And they suck the bat dry. They do give a good spark though.
I had the same problem with my Martek Kit. It would stand me in the middle of the road if I rode more in the night than in the day. I had to make sure I got equal time of day and night riding or the bat would get sucked dry.
But Ill give the martek this much it allowed my stock LT to do around 138.
SO it was better than points.

Shit thats sad about the sleeve job man. That too must be a Delhi sleeve job.
That is one issue with the RDD kit. Once you install it the other weak link in the bike becomes very apparent. You have taken your bikes ignition from 1971 to 2009 the rest of your bike is still stuck in the past.

You have to understand my position also. I have invested 10 years of my life into this kit. And building something that I belive is really the best Ign for RDs.
I dont sell it to everybody in India. Simply because. There are so many clueless cutlets out there who cant tell their elbow from a screw driver.

For some reason we have never had any install problems with the Export kits. I think the guys outside India are more carefull and through in their installs.

Another key factor is that most of them do the install them selfs. Where as in India. The kit lands up with some Mechanic who has no idea what to do with it.

Hey your officially the first guy to upgrade from the Delhi Kit to the RDD kit.
So we have had favorable feedback from
Delhi Kit, Newtronics, PVL,
Now only kit we have to sort out is the Auto Escorts kit.

I have tried the auto escorts kit on one of my bikes as mentioned in my feedback post. The RDD CDI is way better ron. so you can take that also off the list of CDIs that have to be put down.
If anyone asks me for a CDI i tell them about RDD if they they cant spend more than 4k then i say auto escorts. you get what you pay for. Atleast i feel its better than the scooty pep CDI these local mechs make.

Thanks man. I thought as much. But its always good to have some kind of proof.
The problem with most of the Scooty Pep CDI jobs being sold by the local mechs is that they are basiclly trying to copy a kit made in Banglore that uses the Scooty Pep CDI.

The mistake they are making is that they are using Fake Scooty Pep units.
This is why it doesn't work so well.

Send your pistons and barrels over I will do a free inspection on it for you. Most probably you can salvage your liner job with a proper clean up.
Which city did you do your liners in I can tell you what mistakes they make in most places.
