Everybody has been telling him to stay with NA for now. Mohith is just being Mohith.

update in butt dyno feel??
RE: Baleno - RDD Street Setup
I think he is quite happy.
But I wont be happy till we do some more tuning and testing.
Plan is to collect some data with different setups and see which gives the most power and most mileage.

Its a world of difference from a colleague's stock one I had been in recently. The car is very drivable and fast at the same time. I am sure anyone who gets a ride in this one will be asking for a similar setup.
RE: Baleno - RDD Street Setup
There was an accusation that what I had given Mohit was nothing but a resistor in a box.
This is not the case. It has a high end CPU. It has a built in WB circuit. It has complete dataloging of RPM, AFRs, MAP, TPS etc. All this plus the WB sensor for 20K was a good deal.
I have also given him the software so he can do his own dataloging. No he cant change any parameters because that would be dangerous.

RE: Baleno - RDD Street Setup
Ok I think I need to pen something down. I have completed oddly 250 kms after this latest electronics upgrade. I was waiting to test more on reliability but by now I have learned to trust what comes out of the dungeon. This build has some of the most recognisable RDD power bands.
Earlier there used to be a distinct powerband from 2.5k or 3k onwards with a clean pull till the redline. Now this has even become even more visous and wider powerband. I was taking Ajith for a ride this evening and was showing that the car pulls cleanly from even below idle. Or lets just say car is rolling at 750 rpm in 2nd gear, you just floor the throttle, it just lurges ahead with no hesitation. My feel for the car is 2nd gear pull, i use this to guage differences/improvements made. Powerband start as low as 2k now, above which each mm of throttle is rewarded with acceleration. As soon as the car passes the 4.5k it goes ballistic. I would consider this part of the powerband to what you would experience on a good HT. The thing now is that the car is revving so fast that I hit the rev limiter in 2nd in a very very short stretch of road. I am sure that the car just needs a stretch less than that of high street to in 2nd gear top....and considering my 2nd gear tops out at 105, that pretty fast. I run out of road so fast that its scary.
What are the first things that you notice after this
a. Torque - almost like a diesel car, very flat and almost there through 3/4 of the rev range.
b. Revvability - RPM meter goes ballistic most of the time.
c. Hardly any difference with A/C on - in power mode, hardly any drop in power is noticeable. probably because more
d. Obviously much better acceleration.
I have tried both the modes, love the power mode. Eco mode, there is enough power to lug the car around peacefully when in town. Driveability is not affected at all.
Another thing I have to mention is the install, its super professional. The box is well hidden, yet accessible while driving the car (having long hands will help). The install of the display is very stealth. You cannot figure out where it is unless the ign is ON. Basically I dont have huge meters all over the place or any pillars, its quite stylish and sexy. I did not expect this at all.
What would I call this build, only one word comes to my mind "TORQUEINSTEIN"!!!!

What matters is that it works really well. No imagination required to feel the difference. Since i have experienced it before and after the latest tweak, i can say that definitely.chinoy wrote:There was an accusation that what I had given Mohit was nothing but a resistor in a box.

All that has to be said has been said by those who rode this machine last week about the way this machine builds speed and is still so driveable.
I'll just add that a lotta people are waiting for Mohith to grow older in to a sensible family man and "upgrade" to a family van for obvious reasons.

RE: Baleno - RDD Street Setup
Ron, I have something for you regarding the two driving modes. I have been running in the power mode only to for the testing part, will check the plugs when I come over to your place. I have done around 100kms on the NGKs and in power mode, so we should get the proper reading now. What you told me last time is true I guess, that we need not run this rich in power mode. When I back off a little (around 10%), the AFRs go a lil lean and accelerations seems crisper. So I agree with your hunch.
I have been driving like a nut, and the fuel needle seems to be plunging as if its taken a bungee jump. I believe this is around 30%-40% less fuel efficient than out eco mode. I have not tested the actual figures, but I am happy with the power mode. But this is too much to use for daily driving in traffic. A small prod in 1st or 2nd will shoot the car forward......
Now what I am thinking is that I dont really want a mileage mode. I want probably the same power mode, and a normal mode. In the eco mode, leanest AFRs are quarter throttle, which is fine. But when I want to overtake it takes a little time to respond. This should be smoothened out, and I can use this mode daily. Power mode being reserved for going Loco!
I will come for testing as soon as possible. I understand we never tuned it and these AFRs you have programmed is just your intution. I have to say you have pretty much got it near perfect. For example I was surprised with the AFRs climbing on full throttle on eco mode. I never thought of that. Neat i would say.
