Crazy Old Man's Christmas Gift

Post by crazydiablo »

I find this really funny....

I just got the car back yesterday....Not much of running around. I find a significant increase in power and keeping an eye on the display and running around and usual stuff. When I was discussing with Ajith today afternoon, I was telling him car is up on power but that viscous kick is not there...also power is coming in higher....read on to find out more....

So I had taken a quick round around high street when I collected the car and I believed the car was in power mode. So am running around all power happy.... I did not bother toggling the switch because all I wanted was power. :D

So just now, we go out for dinner....Was explaining to wifey what all changes has happened in the car. As usual, wifey wants to know how much mileage I will get in the mileage mode. I say, Na i dont want to find out.... But she is insistent. I stopped and toggle the switch.

I start the car and move, the AFRs are reading richer...Since ron told me to take it easy in the mileage mode, i drive sanely....AFRs are still not going leaner....

I hit Airport road, and I want to see whats the leanest AFR i will get in mileage mode, I gently push the throttle...Car lurges forward and AFR go richer....Oh fluck...oh fluck....I realise now.....

I have been driving in mileage mode thinking wow nice..Ron the switch is the other way around man!...Big Grin.....Pedal to Metal.....Hell breaks Loose!

I have not done the carpet mod yet. This is not a review, its just a thank you note. I was too excited that day to keep my mouth shut.

I will write the review after I have put in some miles. I need to pull her on the high way and see the results.

So the new ECU is finally in.

what i see is a 2 map thing.or does it have the auto learn feature?

how much more butt dyno feel are you getting in the car.compared to the previous setup?

also is this a proper hard wired ECU or is it connected with some ready to use harness.

can this ECU be made in general form or is it custom made for every car.

sorry for so many questions.thing is i have been waiting for this ECU ever since you first mailed me about it about an year back ron.

We had a debate with Mohit on this just now.
How I explained it to him is that every project is diffirent.
Some projects will require a stand alone, some will require a piggy back, some will require a custom circuit, some will require new sensors.

Its a different and holistic approach to tuning.

In this case what mohits car required was a custom circuit that would take control of the fueling requirements of the car which we have done.
Its custom because it was developed to meet the requirements of his build.

There are two kinds of people out there.
a. Those that want more power / reliablity and fun. And dont really care how you do it as long as you deliver and they feel they got good value for their money. Mohit is one such guy. He never asks or demands any info. If the car moves and and is reliable and he feels he has got good value for money he is a happy camper. In return he has been rewarded with one of the fastest street RDs in the country and a really well set up car.

b. Those that want info to see how they can use that info to their advantage. While stifing you a chance of making a few bucks. (I know your not in this class for sure). But there are such people.

Take the example of the bike CDI kit.
I striped my self naked I laid it all out there. Explained it inside out. Yet the sales never took off.
The only way it took off was by word of mouth or by people experiencing the RDD magic.
I belive the first apprach as adopted with the RDD CDI was a waste of time and effort.
So this time lets do things diffirentlly.
RDD has the ability to deliver. We have proved it with this build.
You said he offers nothing but talk he hasnt done any builds for anybody but him self.
So I cooked the dish. I put on the plate. And put it under you nose now decide.

Other than 2-3 names who i have asked mohit not to show the car to Im sure he will oblige anybody who wants to chk it out.
WHy refuse some people its simple. SOme people will run you down no matter what you do. Such people are best avoided.
If you want race them but dont give them a ride in the car.

I was type B(of course not trying to make money just as you stated)
But i'm becoming Type A.
i simply no longer want to know too many details. Its too much headache and then there are things which i don't understand and they will become stupid issues.

problem is now sitting here in dehradun i cannot get a test drive of the car.thats why the questions are coming out of the excitement that we now have an ECU running good and not having issues.

the downside of this ECU for me now is that i cannot bring my car down there.

come on ron shift up north and let us lesser lucky people have some fun with our cars.

what car do you have ? I can then think about the options.

Teji if you really want a speed / power fix ride the car single or two guys max. With car filled with 5-6 guys you really cant get a feel for what it can do.

Well i have the civic. Its a car with a lot of restrictions.mechanically as well as electonically.but i'm trying to see its potential.I've just made a homw made cold air intake with the stock filter.seems to be responding better in normal city driving.

i was also contemplating turbo but its got its own set of problems.
Turbo plan was a DIY but as i figured its way too over my head i kept it aside.

Tell me what can be planned for this car.its got the R18 engine.1.8Lt 130 Hp putting i think 100 to the wheels. The US version of the same engine puts out 140 Crank Hp and about 110-115 at the wheels.

the select turbo cars in US have been putting out 190 to 225 BHp at the wheels without any engine blows.so i guess that the engine has potential.

what do you say?

Well Folks,

As an old time motor enthusiast who grew up Chennai watching the greats such as Kari,Kamlesh Patel, JD Madan, Harish Samtani etc etc I thought I had seen it all when it comes to Car Builds!!!

Now we know that Ron is a genius when it comes to bikes but Cars and Ron???. All you guys have to do is do what I did .......which is climb into Mohit's passenger seat and strap yourself in with a bored ho hum look.

The only clue of things to come is the slightly louder exhaust noise than normal which of course you would be used to with all the dabbas floating around in the name of performance exhausts.

Mohith climbs in , starts the car, slots into first and does the simple exercise of dumping the clutch and flooring the gas. Suddenly, the world changes - you are no longer sitting in a Baleno out to get the weeks' veggies - You are on top of a Saturn 5 rocket on the way to the moon... Holy Moly Freaking JC and the 12 apostles - the car just takes off-actually for the first 10 metres or so it just hops down the road while the tyres scrabble frantically for purchase - then they hook and objects a quarter of a mile away suddenly loom large in front of you. You of course are frantically braking with yr right foot as Mohith seems determined to bury the nose in the arse of the BMTC bus ahead of you. Hands are looking to brace youurself while the Gs have pinned you into the seat.

Mohith decides that is enough of first and pops 2nd. He also takes a smart left into Milton Street and floors the gas again. An old man about 250 metres ahead , looking to cross, hears the banshee howl and wisely steps back onto the pavement. I see a look of utter shock and amazement on his face as we scream past at what feels like 5000 Kmph. I know what he is feeling - I am pretty much wanting the ride to never end while at the same time being scared shitless being strapped into a road missile.

The Wheeler road junction comes up amazingly fast and Mohith who seems to believe that braking is for sissies makes another smart left onto Wheeler Road. An Auto with a death wish cuts across our path but we nimbly sidestep and take a left into high Street. Booming up the incline we come to a stop in front of Rons' House.

I totter out of the car and check if the family jewels and other parts whcih I thought I had left behind when Mohith took off are in fact still attached to the rest of me. The last time I felt like this, I had just got off one of those Coney Island 200 ft Roller Coasters.

Guys, this car is Insane- It is insane fast, goes like stink and is the perfect example of a sleeper. I have tried my best to capture the ride but my word skills are grossly inadequate to the task. However, I did promise Mohith and Ron so here its is.

Almost Finally, Mohit mate congratulations on an incredible drive that you have. Now there are two rides of yours that I have wet dreams about!!!

Finally, Ron Chinoy, what more can I say that has not been already said- that you are the msot incredifreakingble genius that I have ever come across- that am I glad that I know you - Man you Rock. Salaam to you.

PS: If that man chinoy does a build for you and tells you - its not an out and out performance build, the motor is built to last , it will run on normal gas etc etc DO NOT believe a word that the man says - I have ridden and been driven in three of his builds - 1 bike and 2 cars and they are INCREDFUCKINGBLY fast - if those are not performance builds then i dont know what is...

PPS: If old Mohith offers to take you for a spin , make sure that you bowel movements are done for the day cos, baby, your gonna be scared shitless for the next two days!!!!
