Hey there All

Post by weldit »

Hi all
New member to RDD. I am from Melbourne, Fl. USA. I bought a 1973 RD250 all stock for 150 dollars a year ago. Needed a battery and regulator/ rectifer and have been loving it ever since. Never realized what fun a liitle 250 2 stroke on the street meant. I am in the process of making it my little cafe bullet. New expansion chambers, reed valves, suspension tweaks. I can't say how much the online forums have help as far as information goes. Still learning alot.
How do I go about ordering and paying for parts from RDD?

I am posting a pic of the bike when I first got it.

thats frustrating. little tip i wish someone had told me. get your bike running spot on in stock form before doing any mod's.. then do only one mod at a time. get it spot on again. proceed to next mod.. consider one of rons ignitions. you have the #one and #two bolt on's preformance mod's done, once your jettings is finished. good job! do the iggy next, and thats about it for the engine without f*cking with the longivity unless you are truely in the skinny as a tuner. suspension and braking is where i like to start, then engine, but thats me.

You know I had that going through my head that I was going to do 1 mod at a time, but you know how the anticipation of potential HP can get! Suspension is definitley next. Looking to order those rear shocks from RDD. What is doing the IGGY? Oh yeah and hear is what the bike looked like when I first got it.

ignition. ron the the guy that runs this site delveloped a electronic "iggy" no points to set again, 150 watts( i have it pushing two halogyns with power to spare) lighting was why i got my first one, but the big advatage is on the latter generations they come with a dynamic ignition curve. i.e. modern bike not stadic 30+ year old technology. do a search here and find out more than you imagined. they are pricy but there is a state side sales rep' . its become part of every rd build i do now, four without a problem yet . if you are planning on doing front disc. let me know . i am on the wrong coast/ sarasota but can hook you up with a bolt on from a 350 (disk brake/stoppies). think i even have one in chalky blue to match your paint job. local bone yard near your probably has one for cheaper then the gas to collect it from me would cost though. nice complete bike! you got a steal for 150 bones. hit daytona for the vinatage races durring bike week for a true two stroke fix. i love the smell of caster oil in the morning( spoof on a famous line from the movie "apocolipes now"if you missed the 70's)

IT SMELLS LIKE ______ VICTORY!
I have from ebay a set of 350 forks waiting to be used but lack the wheel, disc, caliper, master cylinder. What are you looking at price wise for the set up? used to have a good scrap yard for bikes but he has been gone for a while now!

ask twice before pulling the triger on fleabay. trading/selling its a taboo on this forum, but pm me. we should be able to work something out being fellow floridaens. but slow down . do your research. what do you want to do with your bike? whats your budget? will you be happy with a 36 year old bike that you have hundreds of hours/$ in or do u just want a fun rideable w minamal time/$ investment. i dont think theres a middle road when it comes to two strokes. . but use this place and other forums as a sounding board. bikes are30+ years old chances are someones invented that wheel or ran into that wall already.

Well got the new jets for the bike today. It was raining but had to see what was to be of the new mod I did. Got out of the driveway and ease into it kinda easy due to rain and the unexpected! Once i knew it was pulling good I cracked the throttle all the way and WOW! Bike pulled hard enough that it wanted to lift the wheel, but due to my riding gear {shorts and flip flops} I did not want to experiment that much with it. Tomorrow I will further tweak the carbs and hope to get some well needed riding in.
