After spending 3 months on fully restoring a totally butchered RX100 myself (and spending close to Rs30k), I was very close to believing that no other stock RX100 could be so much fun. I found out over the weekend how wrong I was.
My bike got the initial Chinoy treatment – RDD CDI + Chinoy Filters, and man, she flies! Real thanks Mr Chinoy for such wonderful products. Your CDI and filters are every bit as good as you promised and more…! Get over the modesty Sir, and aggressively market them – every two stroke in this country needs these goodies.
Did a speed check with the help of a friend’s merc and clocked 105kmph before I ran out of road! Felt the engine still had a bit more left in her though – and all this in spite of me weighing 87 kilos, standard bore piston kit with piston slap and me having no clue if the jetting is right!!! Boy oh Boy! I am still enjoying the trip so much that it is difficult to put it in words… the wheelies, the smoothness, the induction roar and the sheer feeling of being able to experience all this on such a puny engine!
Installing the CDI was a no brainer, in spite of the fact that I had to splice the wires due to the shortage of RX100 couplers. Clearly labeled instructions and all the old RDD posts really helped, though. Same was the case with dialing in the timing. Initially she was running on 14 deg; for the CDI got her to run 18 deg. I also tried 22.5deg using the folding paper trick, but I liked 18 better than 22.5.
A bit of friendly advice to newbies – If you do not do your own wrenching, just tell your mech that you want your stator plate to have slots instead of holes just like in the Suzuki Samurai stator plates. Get them a needle file for 10 bucks and they will do it in a jiffy. All you need to then is to adjust the timing to suit your tastes. The recommended 4deg advance worked fine with me.
The CDI does wonders for your bike – you would notice
• Bike revving to never before limits
• Smoothness at all rpms and speeds
• Cool engine temperatures even after couple of hours of hard ripping
• Complete absence of plug fouling – It burns the fuel so clean that plugs look like text book examples of proper combustion
• An increase in mileage of about 15% with just the CDI installed
• I don’t have the 90/100 kit but just with the CDI, the lights were definitely brighter and I got a sharp pronounced round beam.
For all those who would like to know, I was running a brand new Yamaha OEM CDI before the RDD one and not some crappy unit so the difference really surprised me – pleasantly.
Though just the RDD Digital CDI is a great upgrade for one’s RX, to truly experience the thrill of riding, I feel a Chinoy filter is a necessity as well. Mr Chinoy provided a 150 mainjet with the filter which worked fine for my setup.

My only complaint though, Mr Chinoy is that now everybody wants a trial ride of my bike – which I refuse of course – resulting in me getting branded as one selfish bugger
