Introducing markp

Post by markp »

Hi All,
Although I have been a registered member for about 3 weeks, I have only just seen this section. It is probably time that I introduced myself.
I am Mark and I live in the south-west corner of England. I work as a gardener but my first career was as a college lecturer in Agricultural Engineering. I have ridden bikes for 35 years and currently own a Yamaha FZS1000 Fazer with a measured 145bhp at the rear wheel which is my everyday bike. I also own a 1971 Yamaha R5 350 twin (which is my reason for being here). The R5 is the direct ancestor to the air cooled RD350 and many parts are interchangable. Unfortunately, my R5 has covered at least 55,000km (the speedo stopped working some years ago) and is pretty tired in both engine and cosmetics. I intend to restore the bike back to a decent condition and hope to source some of the parts needed in India. The problem with the R5/RD350 in the UK is that the bike was last imported in 1976, and the spares situation is pretty poor. There seems to be more parts available in the USA but the prices on Ebay are way too expensive.
Bye for now,
Mark
