Now thats how a RD should move ...

To cut the story short, today i rode Sling's RD on the highway. If this doesn't tell you the full story let me put some details.

After the speed session was over, i was asked by these 2st junkies to take a RD for spin, there were two of them, zloyd's and Sling's. Since Sling's RD set the fastest speed, no way I could let the chance go by, specially when I was few feets away from the bike, holding the gun when it zooommmmmeeeed past me.

Took the keys and started the bike. Shift to 1st, rev it, short shift it to 2nd (not my bike so don't want to pull hard in 1st), short shift to 3rd and then let the speed build up. Tacho needle was dancing around 7k when I shift to 4th, then 5th then 6th but that damn thing kept on pulling and pulling and pulling. Must have done atleast 120, my butt dyno says so, before I slow down to look for a cut for taking a 'U' turn. Sadly none found and hence I have to now cross the bridge, so I accelerate while still in 6th. Expected a smooth accel and got that not until when suddently that thing went into powerband and still start to pull. Poor things on 2 and 4 wheels who were left smelling 2T smoke (not many would have smelled 2T of a bike moving like that). After some 3 odd km's I found a cut (ofcourse I intentionally missed prev cuts ;-) carrying ne further and I would have reached city). Now I was having a idea of the bike so on the way back did one more fast run before heading back to the place where guys were still waiting for me to return the bike (I thought Sling would have took my Fiero and ridden to town with others )
On the way back, I did one last rip and man was it great. The helmet was pushed back to stick to my face

As I stop close to the guys I coudn't stop but keep on smiling and with every moment going by, smile was getting bigger and bigger. Have not yet step down from the bike, was hoping that Sling will say that he will take my Fiero to home today but alas that didn't happen

As I step down from bike, it required the combined forces of Zloyd, Sling and Rash to take the key of RD out of my hand

So does it mean one more person looking around for a RD? Well lets see how it goes but thats one RD I will not mind owning for rest of my life. Great work done Ron. Enjoy the ride Sling, your wait is really awarded well.

Somehow one thing which is common to RDD bikes rides is that no matter who rides em, they always come back with a grin on the face. I have seen that bike move. it hauls ass.

THat's fantastic. I've heard of now a number of RDD bike's doing this. But just one thing to note...If these bike's are pushing your helmets to you face, you guys are wearing lids a size too big. Which is def not a good thing. Coz in a crash it may cause more harm than actually save you.
Whiplash... Paralysing people since the time the term was invented.

@Sling: I probably wrote it incorrectly, not looking to take away your bike from you but meant that such an RD I won't mind in my garage

@Joshua: The helmet I got is of proper size, not the tightest of fit, very little bit of movement is there. The helmet moved a few mm's backwards at the speed.

Kinda puts thing in perspective and gives me a great deal of satisfaction with what Im doing with my life and its present change in direaction.
The Combo build is by no means a high speed setup or a big BHP motor. Its better than any stock LT while retaining very good engine life. To me this is the optimum balance between fuel consumption, power output enjine life and smiles per miles.

Its special to be able to share the concept of a good RD with one more person across the country. Who would probably never have got to experience such a setup. Sadlly as this spreads the prices of RDs are going thru the roof. Everybody is buing one now thinking there is hope they can get it to run well.
I have seend RD prices go from 10K to 60-80K in under 6 years.
Anybody who rides it will have his perspective on what the RD can and should dorewired.
The focus is on smiles and a nice wide power band.
It should do at least 7500 to 8000 RPM in top gear.
And the mileage should actually be better than a stock HT.

The basic Idea is enjoy it like this. After you get yours moneys worth of smiles and miles. ANd you feel like your willing to step up the power giving up that low end pull for some more on top send in the barrels. Many people opt to keep the setup as is cause the engine life is so good.
Just run motul and make sure no dust gets into the engine she will last you a few years at least.

Once again thanks and sling enjoy the bike she should be run in by now. So you can start backing off on the jeting if the plugs show you to be too rich.
You can also bump up the timing by a few degrees if you feel she is not heating up and can take a little more advance.

Ps: One last tip keep it away from the hands of the Local RD Experts.
Experience has shown the minute they get their hands on it performance start droping.
Try and do as much of the servicing yourself or with the help of the RDD Crowd in Pune.
For the Cycle parts find a guy who has no idea about RDs and use him. They tend to do the best job maintaining the cycle parts. And the least damage to the performance of the bike.
Dont go chasing power by leaning out the mixture too much. Sure fire way to hole the piston.
You can do it but you need a dataloger and need to play very safe.

no way the bike is going to a rd mech. not after my nightmare experience with them. she is not even goint to a regular mech as far as possible. i actually miss not getting my hands greasy once in a while.

plugs are reading happy but slightly on the richer side. might lean out a notch on the needle soon. i am happy with the jetting as of now and i am not too keen to chase a 0.5 % peak power increase.
anyway bieng slightly rich gives me the flexibility to go to lower altitudes with peace of mind.

That's a really good RD. And the rearset footpegs(pune rdd production) along with that handle bar have made it diferent and more confidence inspiring than any other rd I've ridden. And did I meantion that it has a very impressive powerband?
