My experience with RDD CDI for RX ……… It’s amazing !!!
I had bought the RX CDI and filters from Ron long ago. Didn’t have a bike then.
Recently purchased a nice condition low-run 4 speeder RX. Enjoyed it as it is for 2-3 weeks. Then decided to fit the CDI & get the bike timed as step 1. Kept filters for step 2.
When I opened the CDI, my tiny brain couldn’t relate the wiring I saw to the one I thought it would have after reading the posts. Instead of trying to fit it and possibly blow it, I asked Rash for help. He was kind enough to take some time out for fitting the CDI and time the bike (stock timing was found to be 20 degrees). With my limited wrenching skills, all I could help him in was remove the seat and tank .
Ran the bike with static timing for a week. The bike idled uniformly and felt very smooth.
Again I asked Rash for help advancing the timing the bike. Rash took all the pains to take out the drum, take out the plate and file the post to rotate the pulsar. I stood there trying to relate various things I had read on the forum about the full process. Rash was calm and patient while answering my dumb questions about almost everything. Thanks again to him.
The top speed more or less remained the same thanks to the 4 speed barrel that wouldn’t rev out much. So got the pipe de-carbed and baffles removed. Need to get a 5-speed barrel soon. But there was a solid improvement in low and mid range.
The bike is much more fun to ride in city traffic now. The front tends to lighten up so quickly and easily. I simply cant resist whacking the throttle open at every signal . The bike keeps pulling and pulling.
Before fitting the CDI, the bike was vibrating like it would fall apart in pieces at high speeds and I wasn’t feeling confident taking corners. After fitting the CDI, vibrations seem to have gone. I feel much more comfortable at high speeds and cornering.
The recent ride to Lavasa was an absolutely charismatic experience. The bike felt very smooth and stress-free. RX was never so much of fun before.
Already started to take the bike to office regularly. The bike is so much fun that at times I just get off my chair in office and go for a short 15 mins spin
Thanks to Ron for creating such a great piece of engineering and showing us the capabilities of a tiny RX.
Thanks a ton to Rash for helping me and getting me started on wrenching.
Next step is to put the filter and jetting the bike. However dumb it may sound but I plan to give it a shot myself.
Also in the pipe-line are 5 speed barrel, gearbox and sprocketing as required.
I know all these facts about the RDD CDI are well-proven over the time again and again. But hey I wanted to share my experience as well.

Thanks for the feedback. Thanks for the spirit Rash I do appricate what the old timers are doing in each city. As a beacon of light and knowledge.
No matter how many people say it there are still tons of non believers out there.
And thus every brother that Testifies may help convince one more non believer.
I dont know how long it will take to convince more than 1-2 RX owners a month.
Or how many people talking about what the RDD Performance Ign can do for a bike. But I hope the tide turns soon.
It shouldn't matter whether you want performance or mileage. The RDD Unit gives you both.

Been there done that, had a very similar review of it. Long live professor rash. Just one piece of advise, if u r doing the gearbox and all, get a new crank too if u plan to get the barell ported. I took the very same route as u. 4 speed bike + cdi + Chinoy Filter + 5 speed stuff. Congrats again man.
There is no hope left when you start declutching an RD.

RE: Re: RE: My experience with RDD CDI for RX ……… It’s amazi
Warning : You can get bored reading this story of me fitting a filter to a bike which can be very much summarized by these last 5/6 words itself. But I cannot keep away from sharing experience of my first all alone wrenching session. So here it goes.
After a long break of 3 months running around finishing chores after we bought a new home, finally I gave up on the patience for waiting for a weekend to work on the bike. I knew that a weekend is just not possible so took a leave from office and got all set to put on the filter on my RX. Since I had next to no experience of any fruitful wrenching, I got all tools I would possibly require before-hand.
So opened the carb, checked the needle position etc since I had not opened it ever since I bought it.
Cut the airbox. Connected a 40mm pipe to the intake manifold of the stock airbox and the filter to the other end of the 40mm pipe. Everything fitted perfectly. No hassles. Moved the needle to richest position till the time jetting is taken care of.
Fitted back everything. Attempted to start the bike. It wouldn’t. Damn, what could be the problem now. I was doing all this all alone. So before dragging the bike to the nearest mechanic, I decided to give it a shot. Opened the carb again. I vaguely remembered a diagram of the carb I had seen somewhere on the Internet and suspected that I put the slide inverted. Corrected that. Bike started in a couple of kicks. Bingo !!!
Called up Rash and took the bike to his place for jetting session and some carb tuning. This man does something to the carb and all the smoke bike was emitting is gone.
Took the bike for a spin and man what a growl. The pickup is quicker. Bike keeps on pulling in any gear. The filter works wonders. Haven't checked any improvement in top speed. Need to take it to highway.
Thanks a lot Ron for making available this wonderful thing to us ! Thanks again to Rash who would patiently cater to some more of my silly questions
