my story of RDD CDI installation
Just imagine your RX 135 making a 65km/hr in 2nd gear (i dont have a digital speedo so do not know the exact speed but it was definitely more than 65 if not 65)...and still engine is as cold as ice (not exagerating)...If this is the performance you get out of your RDD CDI then just imagine you can make Karizmas and Pulsars run for their money...You can not imagine when i changed the gear from 2nd to 3rd, after making 65, the bike started flying...cudnt even see wht did it make in 3rd gear...but i m telling u it was beyond expectations...i only made just 15 kms after installing it so will update you guys once again after haivng blast on highway...
Now something about the insatallation...the connection of CDI is very easy just u should know the right color code...which is actually easy to find out coz it is clearly written on the wires...but was not sure about small bunch of wires so searched various posts...bugged RON also once...but before that I learnt how to do it...ok...so when i connected the CDI...bike didnt start in the first kick...took at least 6 to 7 kicks to start it...but was sounding very weired after it...well I was prepared for it as I had to time the bike anyway...guys i didnt know a word of timing so I called one of my friend who is also a mechanic..he has a timing gun...so him and me (majorly him) did it...also installed 180 jets....once we figured out the right timing the bike was flying...really...literally...seriosuly...
The only thing we are not able to figure out is that bike doesnt start in first kick...it takes at least 3 to 4 kicks...wht shud i have done wrong...pls help me here...this weekend we are going to advance the timing...will it help?...or there is somethng else...
another thing is when i turn off the ignition the bike stops after 2 seconds...is it because the capacitor takes time to discharge..?
my impression on installation is that if you are smart enough to figure out how to time and have a zeal to learn new things and also willing to read all posts here on the website..then installing CDI is very easy...what I did is I took the printouts of all relevant posts and read it for 2 weeks before installing the CDI..however I myself found it difficult to time given the fact I have never done the timeing myself...(wyhich I should be ashamed of coz I myself is an automotive engineer)...however theory and practical are really different...but I learnt it this time and now if I have to change the timeing I can do it myself..in fact this weekend I will do it myself..

You seem to have upjetted to 180s without putting in the UNIs...thats fine, no worries. You are running rich now, no harm done, as long as you dont run lean.
Fit the Chinoy Filter and then see the difference.

Take bhaabhi out for a spin...and be careful, dont whack the throttle open, the front end might just go light

Vinay Kumar is a senior Autombile Enginner working for one of the worlds Top Automotive Consulting firms. So aprication for such quaters is allways appricated.
Id prefer one Educated apprication over the dis-aproval of 200 shade Tree Mechanics or amatures who think they understand two strokes.
Ps: THe comets above are directed at those that belive the stock RX CDI or a RX100 / Scooty pep / Hero Puch CDI is somehow better than the RDD Unit.

@vinay: good on ya mate! lets meet up sometime and get those Chinoy Filter's installed.
Ron about ppl saying that the orginial japanese RX100 CDI is better and blah blah blah , do think our indian mechs will ever appriciate a product like a CDI frm another Indian? they would be in awe and shut their mouth if it were a CDI imported frm the US/UK in a nice fancy package costing $200/10k and shit but when u tell them that my CDI (RDD) is built in India by an Indian they turn skeptical immidiately. indians will never let another indian go up/climb the ladder , they will always pull him down. so goes a saying ive heard. thank god the firangs arnt close minded

Vinay we had the same multiple kicks required problem on Kirans RXG.
THen it went away. If I remember right hard starting just indicates that the timing isnt set right.

I think it's the pilot circuit being lean.. on mine there were a lot of variables.. I had changed the timing and the air screw setting was screwed by the mech..
Never got to finding out what it was.. it was starting in about 2 -3 kicks before the engine rebuild most likely it is because of the timing..
So check the timing, if the air screw setting was not changed let it be and check the pilot circuit by opening the choke when the bike is warm if it revs up the pilot circuit is lean..

I suppose your Rx is a 5 speeder vinay . Ride safe dude, And get a Chinoy Filter from ron and upjet and you'll get a nice little screamer.

Keep an eye on the engine temperatures.....see if it gets too hot. Also, put in a new plug after you install the Chinoy Filter.......and check it after a few kilometres of open throttle run. The colour should tell you whether you are running lean or rich.

Filters will be ON today itself..without further delay...only problem is there is not enough space so have to squeez it and install...anyother way to install it...

Dont worry man, squeezing the filter will not affect its performance. There are hardly any bikes with UNIs that havent been squeezed a bit

Vinay use the Rubber hose from the carburettor to the airbox, remove the airbox and use a 44 mm outer diameter PVC pipe, clamped on one end on that rubber hose, the other end on the Chinoy Filter, thats how I run it on my RX and it gives no issue.
I second that, I was playing around with my CDI today, removed the spark plug cap and started the bike with the wire directly to the spark plug, then started pulling the wire away, there was a bright blue 1 inch spark and the bike was still running and it was only at idle. Awesome shit man!!! motorhead was flabbergasted looking at it.The RDD CDI will pretty much burn anything you throw at it.
There is no hope left when you start declutching an RD.

somebody is having fun. Just dont overdo it man. The spark is supposed to stay inside the cylinder head for it to do its job. An explosion outside the combustion chamber is not going to be so much fun.
