RDD CDI : New life

Post by Tychester »

My feed back on the RDD CDI :

Back in town a couple of days back. Kit installed, running fine.

+Ve :
1. Sound is toooooooooo good.
2. Idels @ .5K(a lil +) RPM
3. Feel factor : Awesome, kicks more than Finlandia
4. Emission tested, lesser numbers.

-Ve :
1. Bolts to fit the brass plate is dome top, better we go for a flat top.
Magneto was touching 2 out of 3 bolts.

Other issues I faced :
1. Bad battery
2. Wrong wiring in the headlight doom, was grounding somewhere.
3. Still fighting with jetting issue.

Great product, good work Ron. My regards to all ppl behind the scenes to get this product out. I'd say this is the best treat you can throw at your RD.

Going further : venture for TPS.

Thanks a lot again.

Ive seen cases where the CDI allowed the engine to idle at 250 RPM.
Just case the CDI allows low idle I dont think its a good idea.
Would recomend keeping the idle at factory recomended 1100 RPM.

So yours was the Red RD geting the CDI kit instaleld at Joes ?

Ok insider info.
THe DOmed nuts are provided for a reason. On a well setup Crank it will clear without touching.
Ask 90% of the guys who have purchased the kit.
If it touches it means the crank is siting a little futher inside that it shuold.

If you want to sit down with a digital vernier new crank and cases I can show it to you.
If they say its touching I right away know a lot about the crank position.

When we set up the kit / clearences etc.
We had two choices keep it tight asume the customer has a mint condition bike.
Keep it sloppy allowing for a ratty old bike. And take varying clearences into account.

We opted to keep it tight cause that gives the best output.
Anything touching can allways be filed down a bit.

Right. I agree, but the crank dosent sound that ratty. In case 90% of the guys are getting it correct with those bolts, I need to get other things checked soon.

Not a big issue. Dont sweat it.
Just safe to say your crank has been reset and orignal OEM crank bearings where not used.
Thats what does it most times.

I had to file the holes on the plate about 1.50cms in anticlockwise direction to have the proper timimg...overall the kit is great.
