carb blueprinting & Dual stage reeds

Post by joshuacrasto »

Plugged both of them in yesterday. Adjusted the float bowls to the same level. and then fired her up. Without riding the bike i could hear a easier breathing engine than before while it also sounded much louder.

Now the good part, I got on to the bike, (slippers and garage clothes) to take her for a spin around the block. No speed run or anything but the instant feedback was this.

She seems insane and no I'm not kidding. 8)
The throttle response has increased and more importantly it's very accurate and crisp.
She's hitting the powerband really smoothly now (Was running lean in the band earlier)
And she sounds glorious.

Got yelled at by the neighbours becuase it was 11pm.
And the best part is I'm not running the chambers yet

Ron I'm running it in centre clip on the needle with the jet you gave me and stock pipes. Will do a couple of plug chops as I get the time and figure out if the jetting and positiopn is right. Holding on to the chambers for now coz I don't want too many varibles to come into the picture. We should get the bike setup properly first. right?

Thanks again.

PS: got the seat and a bikini fairing fixed today.

Can't have carbon fibre body work? Better still, get 'em reeds.

:glad: you liked the results.
Cant fool a Top Notch RD Jurno so was sweating it a bit. Hoping you liked it.
Your carbs are atmoising fuel much better now. And the reeds are doing their bit too.
Most RDs have carbs that are totally shaged and doing a lousy job of atomizing fuel. And badlly need a proper ovehauling.

You will soon see that jeting gets a little harder with the CDI.
It basiclly let you throw insane ammounts of gas into the engine and still run.

The way arround this is
1. Jet rich or go richer on clip or run with choke on and see how she runs.
2. The only plug chop you should be bothered about is throtel position between 75 and 100% open.
DOnt bother with everyday normal riding plug chop

3. Let the mileage be another guide. If your geting very bad mileage i.e. below 10 your too rich.

Your mileage should go up by at least 20-30% after installing the CDI and filter package. Vs what you where geting on points or local CDI.

Other reasons for not fiting the pipes.
1. It will screw your jeting up totally. You woldnt want to even think of it.without a complete asortment of main and pilot jets.
Thats the good news they have tapered headers and so you wont get away runing stock jeting with the KRP and Proton Crap.
2. The bad news it they are horiblly high end / tuned pipes. Good for drag. Maybe you can do a comparo on all the pipes for the RD. From the old school Track experts to the Protons and the KRP and the RDD Chambers.
If you can line up the others Im open to coming down to a dyno room with my RD chambers.

Would still love to know how the power band works.

ok Ron, got the points with the pipes, so i'll just hoard them for another time till we have this setup sorted.

Spoke with proton, he's open to sending down pipes. I've got a set of proton reeds and filters which i'll be plugging on to a another RD for a eval. Or if i have the time and patience, i'll prob run it on my bike and see the difference. The filter i'm not too keen on running on my bike because it seems like it's flowing more than just air in.

Pipe story seems do-able. Keep you posted though.
I'll see if i can manage a few old school pipes but RDD, proton on a dyno shouldn't be a problem.
Does anybody have a contact for KRP, or a website even?

Forgot to mention that I've laid my hands on jet from 200 to 185 in steps of 5 case i need to go down.
Can also try to get sizes upto 300. but first i'll have to return the ones i'm not using.

Plug chops have to wait, Snagged my shin between bike and a boulder in a river crossing and have a bruised shin. Can't shift gears. :(
