Humm...Yeah,the Kit Is Alright
Just finished installing the kit.First impression is good.Engine seems to have taken a new note which sounds a lot less...lets say "crowded".For a real impression will go on a ride today evening or tomorrow. Will do a 60 kms ride, just to be clear on all engine paramemeters - Heat, fuel efficiencysmoothness and also if theres any noticeable increase in power..Will reserve the comments till then.
Just one more thing though - Thanks a lot Ron,owe you one man .

RE: Humm...Yeah,the Kit Is Alright
Okie here it is.Now some of you might not agree on some points and some will want to rip my guts out.But WAIT.I have done the wiring very very carefully.Checked and double checked it again before even starting the bike.So hold your horses .This is just a honest explanation on facts.Nothing more, nothing less.
1. Heating - Well...I rather didnt find any major difference in how much the engine was heating up.It "felt" pretty silimar to my old CDI.This might also be because of the hot day that we had here today with lots and lots of humidity (was working in a shade today and even then I have got bloody sun burns,"tan" to be fancy,on my arms and face.
So,from the above I have a question - Different RD's are made up of different components now after so many years,so,is it possible that the engine might NOT run as cool as some of the other RD's might ?.
2. Fuel Efficiency - Will get back on this when she comes into reserve, but from what I have read,it SHOULD increase and that will show that the Digital CDI is doing the magic. So hoping for the best.
3. Smoothness - At idle and while hard acceleration, she has DEFINITELY improved. But on the old CDI around 80k's at 4000 rpms, she used to be real smooth. She isnt as smooth now in this range.Has the range changed ?.
4. Performance/Power - Again, its hard to judged but from what I felt and perhaps due to the smoothness, the in gear acceleration seemed a lot more pronounced. Also around 80-90 k's I felt like the power band was changing (like what we feel in an automatic car).Is this normal ?.Has someone felt something like this before?.For the first time since I bought her back in Oct 02,I opened the full throttle...all the way till the end.And from what it felt like, the top end has evidently improved.
So,to sum it up on the performance front, idle to around 3500 is real smooth, from 3500 to around 4500 is KINDA rough,if I can say that, and, from 4500 upwards till about I am guessing 6500,the pull is race bike like...totally brutal and a little coarse.
Another questions - Since the kit makes a lot of power(electrical) it IDEALLY should NOT draw power from the battery too much, right ?.I have a 55/60 headlamp bulb. And I ran for like, lets say,10 kms of headlight on.At the end while I was using the side signals, they were going dim and quick.Weak battery charge ? or is it something else ?.
The list and prices of the stuff I used apart from the RDD CDI Kit :-
1. RXG 135 5S Switch Handle 377
2. RXG 135 5S Wiring Harness 314
3. 2 Honda Activa Spark Plug Caps 138 *2 (thats right!)
4. Side signal Flasher 60
5. Black Adhesive tape 10
Total = 1037
All the spares were brought from Showrooms of the respected companies.

I guess you didn't hook up the battery to the voltmeter as I told you to..... check the rectifier connections. At the end while I was using the side signals, they were going dim and quick.
And when you get access to a real mechanic who has that rare and extremely hi-tech piece of tuning equipment called the Timing Gun, please get your timing checked.

I feel it is a blown fuse on the battery main, so battery was not getting charged.

I think you are running too much advance. Back off on the timing a bit.But on the old CDI around 80k's at 4000 rpms, she used to be real smooth. She isnt as smooth now in this range.

Battery thing is a little baffling to me right now.Regulator/rectifier connections seemd okie when I checked today morning.I think you misunderstood what I said, what I meant was that ONLY the side signals were going dim and quick. The horns were working alright (I have a pair of Fiem's).Will do the battery voltmeter test tomorrow if I can just get enough time.Ohh and about the headlight,it definitely seemed a lot brighter.Whats the maximum amount of wattage bulb can we put on this CDI ?.As I mentioned I have a 55/60 but seems a little less to me.Will also check the fuse.Somehow forgot to check it in the morning.
Timing SEEMS to be okie but cant be certain without a timing gun.Cons of living in a small city I guess...dont know anyone who carries a timing gun .

Heres my old kit.I had no idea that it was a Nippon kit.I only thought I had a Nippon drum.It worked great for 4 years but its time was up I guess.
The Drums shaft has been welded to elongate it.I was unaware of this too

Total Jugaad man , that weld could have cause serious vibrations. Not good for the main bearings either.

Bingo, CDI has fixed the bearing issue....
There is always a thin line between coincidence and consequence.

Your a smart cookie.
Bearing what bearing.
You really think he has a crank left after runing a setup like that for 4 years.
Ofocurse I could be wrong about this if the bike has never been riden beyond 3000 RPM (Not unheard off with most Delhi RDs). Then the crank could still be intact.

RE: Re: RE: Pictures of My Old CDI
I did mentioned before that hte Con rods had almost 2-3 cms of ply when I actually got to see them. What these "not so good mechanics" do is that they make you leave your bike with them and tell you to come in later on.
When you come back. the bike is already put togather and you have NO clue what went on with her. This is where the lack of "options" comes in the question. No real guide to guide you and you have to take all the bull in JUST to make her run properly...how sad is that .
BUT,given all this.I dont agree that the crank has TOTALLY gone. She was still a mean performer with that bull inside of her.Vivkek could be a better judge on this since he has driven her.
Update on the new install :-
1. Battery is charging real good.Even when its 3.5 years old.I think its a issue with the flasher. The guy said that these new flashers that all the bikes come with are faster i.e - less time interval between flashes.Dont buy this though. Can you guys tell me what company flasher you guys have which works good?.
Just to eleborate on the stupidity or total negligence of these so called electricwalla guys - I said fine if you say that these new bike flashers are quick with less time interval then lets check mine with any other bike. There was a Unicorn standing there. And you could see that the unicorn one was way way bright with more time interval.Even then this punk wouldnt believe it.Frustration!.
2. Timing does seem to be a little off and theres no space to move the base plate. So will have to file it a bit to set it right.
P.s - I am no delhiwala and nor is my bike.

The RR is known to bring back to life even the oldest deadest battrys.
Your luck if you handent got this CDI kit.
THe bike would have been fit for only two things.
1. Throwing it into the nearest well.
2. Reverting back to points.
99% says the crank end taper is shot and will ruin your new drum too.
ANd 3 weeks from now you will post a picture of a cracked Drum and say our kits is shit.

About the flasher thing, build an electronic one urself and use LEDs instead of bulbs. 4 of those ultra bright white ones would be more than enuff, and they need much less power for same brightness.
There is no hope left when you start declutching an RD.

Like hell I would let anyone touch my bike, let alone the Kit and like hell I am leaving her with someone alone anymore.Dont worry, kit is superb, have seen enough proof of it already.I just need to set it right.Just a matter of patience and a little time...if I could fine some already .
Yeah, can make a L.E.D and stuff, easy enough.Learned it in the college and stuff. And thanks for the info and the link.I just dont have any time to spare rigth now really. If I had I wouldnt even let Ron send the kit to me,I would have gone down to banglore, met him (long over due) and installed the kit in his presence.

The engine kill swtich has become redundant. How to make it work ?.
Theres a considerable amount of lag in lower gears,so this proves that the timing is off. Will soon post a picture showing the base plate.
Spark plugs are the champion from Mico.No problem or advisable to go in for some other, better ones?.Recommend.

Did the 6'O'Clock thing.First impression...well it sounds pretty smililar.
Benefits of 6'O'Clock ? :-
1. Should bridge the lag.
2. Should run cooler at low revs.
Rode for a kilometer after the modification. It "felt" like the bike was revving more than it was actually generating power.Timing retarded more than ideal?.
More feedback after a decent ride.
